I snickered as Selena missed, catching the piece of popcorn I threw to her mouth. We were sitting on my couch, having a sleepover and talking music. I wanted to start a new album. So we were discussing song ideas and people to be on it.

"Phone!" Selena said, pointing. I glanced to the side to see my phone vibrating on the coffee table, ringing. It was 'Dylan'.

My eyes widened and I showed Selena the caller ID and she gasped. This was so... tween. I let it ring another time before I answered. "Hey," I greeted as casually as I could.

"Hey, you," he responded. And I was almost embarrassed that my heart palpitated. Butterflies in my stomach. Was he... was that his flirty voice?

"What's up?" I asked as a long almost awkward silence filled the air.

"I'm sorry, felt weird for a second there," he chuckled. "I just wanted to thank you for the flowers. Real cute, Angel. Thank you."

I smiled softly, "You're welcome. Happy birthday."

"It's good to hear your voice."

I gulped, looking at Selena who pressed her ear to the other side of my phone between us. "Um, same here, Dyl," I mumbled quietly.

"I'm sorry for not reaching out sooner."

"Yeah, same," I lied. We've been talking through lawyers and his have been giving mine the run around about our alimony agreement. I apparently made the mistake about not getting a prenup and turns out I make more. So I had to pay him. Which was one thing... but now he wouldn't sign a very fair deal. One we had agreed to when we were still calling and texting one another.

"Look, I think we should talk."

"Oh? No plans tonight?" I asked, Selena grabbing my hand and squeezing it tightly.

"Not really," he chuckled. It was awkward. I could tell. He was uncomfortable. "We're on opposite coasts. Can't really go out for dinner or coffee."

"You want to talk... now? Over the phone?"
