Shadow's of the Vultures

______

At night, Taehyung's stomach growled, reminding him he hadn't eaten since the mission. He knew everyone in the mansion was asleep, so he tiptoed to the kitchen, determined to cook for himself despite his lack of culinary skills.

He picked up an egg and tried to crack it, but it slipped from his hands and fell on the floor instead of the bowl.

"You’re supposed to crack the egg over the bowl," a familiar voice said.

Startled, Taehyung turned around and saw Jennie standing there. "Oh... yeah, well... it fell."

Jennie walked closer, her lips curling into a small smile. "Looks like you need some help."

Taehyung shrugged sheepishly. "Umm... yeah, I guess."

Jennie moved to the counter, gathering ingredients with a practiced ease. "Step aside. I'll show you how it's done."

Relieved, Taehyung watched as Jennie took charge. She cracked an egg effortlessly, whisking it with precision. He couldn't help but admire her confidence and skill.

"Why are you up this late?" he asked.

"Well, I couldn't sleep," Jennie replied, her voice casual.

"Why?" Taehyung pressed.

"Let's focus on cooking," Jennie said, clearly trying to avoid the reason she was awake.

Taehyung noticed her evasion but didn't push further. Instead, he watched her work, feeling a strange sense of comfort in her presence. Jennie guided him through the process, and soon they had a simple meal prepared.

As they cooked, Taehyung occasionally glanced at Jennie, noticing the subtle tension in her movements. He wanted to ask more but respected her silence.

While slicing vegetables, Jennie was talking to Taehyung and got momentarily distracted. The knife slipped, and she accidentally cut her finger. She hissed in pain, dropping the knife.

"Jennie!" Taehyung exclaimed, rushing to her side. "Let me see."

"It's just a small cut," Jennie muttered, trying to downplay it.

Taehyung gently took her hand, examining the cut. "Small or not, we need to clean it."

He led her to the sink, running cold water over the cut. Jennie watched him, feeling a mix of annoyance and gratitude.

Taehyung grabbed a clean towel and pressed it to her finger to stop the bleeding. "Hold this," he instructed, then rummaged through the cabinets for a first aid kit.

"You're pretty good at this," Jennie said, her voice softer now.

"Had to patch up a lot of guys in the gang," Taehyung replied with a small smile. "Now hold still."

He carefully cleaned the cut and applied a bandage, his touch gentle and precise. Jennie couldn't help but notice the concern in his eyes, the way he focused entirely on taking care of her.

"There," Taehyung said, finishing up. "All better."

Jennie flexed her finger, testing the bandage. "Thanks, Tae." The nickname just slipped out of her mouth, making Taehyung's heart warm.

Taehyung looked at her, his expression serious. "You need to be more careful. I don't want you getting hurt."

Jennie felt a warmth spread through her at his words. "I'll try," she said, meeting his gaze. "And thanks for the help."
