Claes's POV.
I was busy working on some mafia business, alone in my office as usual. Being a centuries-old vampire tends to come with a lot of solitary moments. Unlike my little brother Ferdinand, who became a vampire due to the Scarlet Project. But that's a story for another day.
As I scanned through the papers, maps, and shipment receipts from the operations, my mind focused intently on the work at hand. Suddenly, my concentration was interrupted by the ringing of my phone.
"Of all the modern world's inventions," I murmured, my thoughts pulled back to reality. I didn't hate these modern devices—quite the contrary, they were incredibly useful—but sometimes, they had an uncanny knack for disrupting my rare moments of relaxation.
I answered the phone call without checking who it was. "Yes? Can't you see I'm busy working here?"
"Yes, I know, brother... You sound exhausted, huh?" By the recognition of the voice, I realized it was Ferdinand.
"Not at all, little brother. Anyway, why did you call? Is there something you need me to handle?"
"No, no, you already handle too much," he laughed. "It's just..."
I could hear him sigh heavily. Something was clearly bothering him.
"Go on, tell me what's bothering you," I said, continuing with my work.
"Well... you know the Drachen Mafia leader, right? The famous one named Drachen, or Fred..."
"Oh, that big muscle lad? Yeah, I know him. Why?"
"He's marrying my eldest daughter, Imee. He already had my blessing the other night. I know how protective you are of your nieces and nephews... They're getting married in two days since Imee is pregnant. It's been her dream, by the way." He sighed again before speaking. "So yeah, it will be a quick wedding. If you're thinking of giving Fred a hard time like I did, I've already taken care of it. Just give him a warning, and it'll be fine."
"She's too young! Marry? So soon? How... how come? And why the rush?" I struggled to find the right words, shocked by the news. I loved my nephews and nieces dearly, having always taken care of them when Ferdinand and Imelda were busy with their affairs.
