"Next time let me know before hand when you make a decision like that" I scoff to father as soon as we step in the castle, the sky is starting to get blue.
He just laughs and it's a bit annoying "tomorrow night I will hone your skills with knives since you can't take your sword with you, it's too big. How many knives can you conceal on yourself? Elias, the question is for you too" he asks as he climbs the stairs to the hallway where his room is and we follow.
"I already have three sheathed in my jacket" Elias replies in utter boredom.
I think for a moment, I've stopped using knives for a long time "five will do, I also want a hairpin" two strapped to my thighs, two hidden in my sleeves and one in the hem of the back of my dress.
"A hairpin?" father asks
"Yes, like a long thick needle, it's one of the accessories mother used to wear but I want it's end to be deadly sharp"
"Open" father says in a deep voice and the door to his room opens by itself, it's enchanted to only respond to his voice and it can't be open any other way I've already tried, I've always wanted to rampage through his things.
We go in and he throws himself on a velvet chair as he stares at me, clearly amused "very well, I'll have them ready for you by tomorrow's night, until then you're dismissed. The sun is about to rise so I'll snatch forty winks"
I snort and Elias laughs, father glares at us but he doesn't seem to mind
"You're kidding right? You slept for a year and you want to sleep again?" I suppress a laugh
"Just four hours, I need to make some arrangements before you start your new role as a spy after three days"
"Three days?" Isn't that too soon?
"You don't need more to be prepared now off you go" he makes a shoo move with his hands and I stick out my tongue at him as I close the door behind me.
As father said, I, unlike vampires can walk out under the sun just fine and I could use one at the moment so I climb down the stairs and make my way to the front gate
"I'll be in the forest" I say to the servant who is standing at the doors. He doesn't say anything and just bows as I pass by him and head out, I hear footsteps follow along with huffs and puffs, the usual Elias whenever he leaves out with me.
I've always loved that forest, my mother and I used to spend most the day's hours there, teaching me about the humans and their areas.
As soon as we reach I take off my heels and throw myself on the grass, enjoying the early morning sunlight and the cold breeze of winter. Elias sits against the trunk of a tree nearby, flipping a knife in his hand. Again, it's a usual thing from him but today he looks...well more annoyed than he often is.
"Keep frowning like that and you will ruin your handsome face" I tease.
He frowns even more as he turns to look at me "you look annoyingly calm for someone who will be a spy for who knows how long, and I got dragged to it" he tsks
"What? Are you scared?" I don't listen to an inner voice telling me that I am.
Not from the humans of course but from myself, I might lose my temper and kill them all.
He scoffs "I'm a general, laying low isn't my thing"
"You are no longer a general, you're my servant get over it"
He glares then looks away. Working together will surely be more difficult than I imagined.

I don't feel myself fall asleep. I open my eyes and see the blue sky has turned to a beautiful, caramel orange.
"What on earth! How long did I sleep?" I sit up fast, a black jacket falls off me, isn't that Elias' jacket? I check it from the inside but I don't find his knives, I look around and spot him at the same tree, he is just as I saw him before I drifted off except he is reading a book now. I find his knives are tossed next to him.
"Good morning, or should I say good evening?" He asks sarcastically, still looking at his book.
"Why didn't you wake me up? Father will call me soon" I think it's just an hour before the night falls.
"You don't realize you've been awake for nearly a whole day? And I won't waste a chance to get rid of you for some time" he smirks as he lifts his gaze to meet mine.
Ignoring the second part of what he said, the first one is actually true, I was already awake since morning when he reported my father's awakening to me at midnight, then I spent the rest of the night with father until sunrise.
I don't remember he had that book when we arrived so he definitely went back to the castle to grab it, so why did he come back here? Being my servant doesn't mean he has to be around all the time.
"Lets go, I'm sure father will want you to tag along for his lesson" I put on my heels and dust myself as Elias stands up, waiting for me to cut the distance. I hand him his jacket and he sheaths his knives back, then we make our way back to the castle.
