We charge at the humans, but they are standing still in their ground.
I stop and pull Elias to halt as the rest dash forward "something is off" I say to him. Father and Ikaros sensed the same and held still beckoning the two herds to do the same, watching from behind, waiting.
As soon as a vampire raises his sword, the front line of the humans set the balls of rope on fire by the torches then throw them. I hear something shatters and in the next second three vampires and two werewolves are on fire.
Everyone freezes and my stomach drops, watching helplessly as the five scream and roll before they turn into lifeless charred bodies.
What was that? It didn't explode but suddenly a huge fire burst and burned whoever was in the reach of it.
Eight humans rush and throw more and we scatter. We are at a disadvantage now as our focus has shifted to avoid the fire instead of attacking. Because we can't heal a burn.
Another group lights another set then throws them to the ground and I hear a glass shatters again before a wall of flames erupts, separating some vampires and werewolves from the others. The humans take out their daggers and stick the tip of it in the fire for some seconds then dash at us, while some go behind that wall of flames and in the next second gunshots are heard from behind piercing through the night. We can only hear but we can't see the shooters unless we spin around the fire and I bet the shooters are expecting it, waiting for the target to come by itself for a short distance death shot.
I hear someone yells behind me and I dodge his dagger by inches then stab him in the heart. I ought to start watching over myself.
Metals clash, ringing through the night along with roars and screams, red starts staining the ground. A number of us has fallen to the fire and a lot of humans are dead. I rush through the mess of a battle and stab here and there, in the heart, in the head, I whirl and stab the spine, crimson stains my dress and splashes on my face but I don't stop. I see werewolves dig their claws right in the abdomens, vampires' black weapons glowing in red as they cut and slice, some elites blast magical hits while others project shields, silver daggers with dangerous orange ends slice and bullets hit the hearts, more fire is on sight.
I try to locate father and see him some miles away, struggling to summon what he can of water to put the fire out but it's not enough, the nearest lake is in the south and father's magic can't extend that far.
So we have to kill the throwers.
I stride forward, killing anyone blocking my way before I reach one of the throwers who turns to me and raises his arm ready to fling the ball of fire at me but I cut his hand and catch the pile of rope before it hits the ground or burn my hand and send it flying in the other direction at the humans.
That won't do. I need to get rid of these. I stab and kill my way to the end of the humans' line and do a quick scanning.
Found it, two holding a full sack as they pass what's inside to whoever is close.
I dash to the two and they spot me, they shout at the closest to make a cover and five hurry to it. Two fire their guns at me and three with daggers sprint to me. I unsheathe a knife and fling it at the fastest one's head and he drops dead, I toss my heavy sword and take his body as a shield from the bullets and keep moving, the remaining two with daggers jump at me and I fling another knife with my free hand to the one on my right and he falls before I feel a sharp pain in my left side as a dagger digs there. I keep myself behind the dead body and kick the man low, he trembles so I seize my chance and slam my head against his chin, he falls to his knees as I pull his dagger out of me and slash his throat with it, I take his body as a second shield, brace myself then throw the two at the couple of shooters. I move to the one on the right and reach him in seconds but he fires from his ground, his bullet lands in my arm, I ignore the pain and suppress my scream from escaping as I unsheathe a knife and slice his hand causing the gun to fall from his grip, I duck to catch it then press the trigger and fire from a low angel, the bullet strikes his chest with a speck of blood and he falls. I whirl and shoot the last one before he does then sprint at the two with the sack as one of them takes a ball, lights it with a torch and aims it at me. I'm too close I won't dodge it in time--
A furry hand catches it before it burns my face. Elias tosses it at the humans and the urgent red strikes a group
"Don't go to the end of their lines on your own!" He scolds before his claws bore through the hearts of the two holding the sack. He has some cuts in his face and both his arms but nothing he couldn't heal.
"You're bleeding" he says, his eyes fall to the stains of blood on my dress
"I'm fine" the bullet though is a terrible pain. I toss the sack over my shoulder "I'll get this to somewhere on our side, I need you to cover me"
"Say no more"
