Luke didn't know what to do when he awoke in the middle of the night and saw that he had shifted in the middle of his sleep. That happened everytime he slept in his wolf form. Every night that happened, he would wake up entangled with Rolus. Tonight was no different. Usually, he would shift back, but now, he made sure that he untangled himself from Rolus without waking him up.
He put on his clothes, then walked out of the room. He checked the time on his phone. It was four in the morning.
He could sense Peter downstairs, so he walked in that direction. He was in his own office. Luke knocked there, then opened the door. Peter was sleeping, his head on the table. His laptop was open.
Luke went to shake him to tell him to go to bed. "What are you doing sleeping here?" he asked when Peter raised his head, eyes heavy with sleep.
"I was just finishing up this work." He yawned, then stretched.
Luke's heart sank when he realised it was his own work. "I promise I'm going to take care of my own work. I know I haven't been present the last month and this work fell on you. I'll do better."
Peter waved him off, shaking his head. "Don't worry about it. I understand. You two have been apart for a year, I understand."
Still, Luke didn't like that he neglected his work just to spend time with Rolus.
"Thought I heard you two come in last night. Why the change of location?" Peter asked, his curiosity making Luke smile.
"His Pack is not exactly welcoming now."
"Can't blame them," Peter said, making Luke glare at him. "I'm just saying."
Luke sighed, going to sit opposite Peter. "I know I fucked up, but that was before I knew he was my mate. If he would have told me, then maybe I wouldn't have terrorized his Pack, Peter. How do I fix it?"
Peter looked at him in sympathy, which Luke relished in. He was tired of the hostility he's been receiving at Rolus' Pack. Even though he would go at night, sometimes he would run into the Pack members when he entered the Pack House. Some were scared, but some harbored hate for him. He could see it in their eyes. At first, he didn't care. But when that happened too many times, it left a mark.
He wondered how they would work as mates when Rolus' Pack hated him. They were justified, but he couldn't help but wonder if they would forgive him.
He wanted to apologise to the families that lost their loved ones by his order, but he got the feeling that that wouldn't be appreciated.
"What do I do, Peter?" he asked, head in his hands.
"Have you and Rolus talked about it?"
Luke shook his head, ashamed to admit that he and Rolus never spoke in the month that he's been frequenting his Pack.
"You should speak with him. Tell him how sorry you are and ask him to arrange a meeting with the affected families so that you can apologise."
It wasn't a bad idea. But Luke couldn't help to think that the families wouldn't appreciate that. He would give it a try. "I'll speak with him in the morning."
Peter nodded in acknowledgement, stacking the papers together. "I've been meaning to ask. Have you two spoken about the future?"
Luke frowned in confusion, asking, "The future as in?"
"You're both Alphas and have your own Packs. You're also mates and I know that you can't be away from each other. You can't sleep at different Packs. And this thing of sleeping at the other Pack is dangerous. It leaves the Pack vulnerable. You may not realise it, but your absence was making the Pack worried."
