Luke and Rolus were supposed to go to Michael Rog. The days leading to that were fast approaching. They were leaving in three days. Michael Rog was the person who had the cure.

The remainder of the days, Rolus was a mess. He was practically glued to his mate, never letting him out of sight. He spent all his time at Black Moon, never going back to his. Sierra was standing in for him.

That was the least she could do, since she was the one who landed them in this mess. He was hopeful that his mate would come out the other side unscathed. He wanted to believe so hard that Luke would make it, but all he could think of was how Luke was so selfish.

What about him? Was he willing to let him go through years of pain just so he could regain his years of memories? Was he willing to leave Rolus mateless, ultimately leading to both their demise? Was he willing to leave his Pack?

Rolus tried really hard to not ask Luke those questions, just to avoid fighting. It was getting harder day by day to not keep quiet.

The Black Moon Pack was also not happy with the decision their Alpha was taking. Luke had held a meeting with his Pack to tell them about the development.

Most of them were very upset, rightfully so. The Pack was in shambles, everyone worried about the future of the Pack if Luke died. Peter was more than capable to take over, but it would be unfair for him to bear the responsibilities.

Everytime  Luke was near, Rolus' worries would alleviate. Luke seemed to look forward to that day, his belief that he would turn out fine and nothing bad would happen. That's what made Rolus mad. How could Luke believe he would come out alive when the last and only person who used it died?

How did Michael even refine the damn cure? Did he use it on living people, or would Luke be a test subject to him?

What did Sierra do? He was so mad at her.

"You okay?" Luke asked him, no longer focusing on his laptop. They were in his office, both working.

Rolus wanted to put things in order for the next weeks so that Sierra didn't have a lot to do. He didn't want to put a lot on her plate.

For Luke to ask that, he saw Rolus staring into space, his laptop forgotten on the table. "I'm good," he replied, his eyes going back to his screen.

Luke sighed, closing his laptop. "I know we never talked about the cure. I know you're not fully accepting of it, Rolus."

Rolus guessed it was time to talk then. He also closed his laptop.

"Then why are you going ahead?" Rolus asked, looking at his mate in the eyes.

Luke was frowning. "Rolus, I want my memories back. I'm not sure why you don't understand this. I want to feel like me. I want those memories back."

Rolus and Luke never discussed why Luke wanted the cure. Rolus didn't know it was that deep. He wanted to understand why it was so important for Luke to have his memories back.

"Luke, why do you want to risk your life and mine for memories? We will make new and better ones. I promise. There is absolutely no need to sacrifice us."

"Rolus, I want my memories back."

"But why?"

Luke sighed, scratching his head. "Because as much as I believe you would never stoop so low to trick me, I still don't fully believe we are mates."

The words felt like a stab to Rolus' heart. He didn't say anything for a while. He didn't know what to say.

Luke waited for him to say something, but when he saw he didn't know what to say, he continued. "I didn't want to tell you because I didn't want to hurt you. I really want to believe we are mates, Rolus, but given our past, it's really hard to fully believe or even trust you. I'm really sorry."
