Rolus was relieved when Luke didn't throw a fuss when he told him about apologizing to the affected families. He only said it was short notice, which it was.
Luke was a bit surprised when Rolus came back when he had just left. When Rolus told him about Sierra letting him leave, Luke said some surprisingly nice things about her, which was overwhelmingly sweet of him to do. Of course since he lost his memories, he didn't know that Sierra was his sworn enemy. Not really an enemy, but someone he disliked to a big extent.
Luke spent the whole night rehearsing some apologies to Rolus. At first, Rolus was mortified that Luke would rehearse an apology, but after a while relented because, of course, this was Luke. What did he expect? But it was his Luke, so he loved him with all his imperfections.
Rolus' brain short-circuted when he realized that he admitted to loving his mate. Did Luke feel the same way? Did he share his sentiments?
"-and I'm really sorry for your losses. I'll spend the entirety of my being regretting my decisions that led to your losses," Luke finished, knocking Rolus' thigh with his foot, trying to make sure that he was listening to him. "Are you even listening anymore?"
"Yes, I am," Rolus said, smiling when Luke gave him an indignant look.
"You were not. If I'm going to lose sleep over the apologies, you are going to too. But what did you think? Is the apology alright?" Luke was fretting, which warmed Rolus knowing that his mate cared about the Pack.
"It was wonderful," Rolus said, standing up and going to sit next to his mate on the couch, slinging his arm over his shoulder. "But maybe remove the regret part, alright?"
"But you just said it's alright. Enough about the apology. I was thinking that after I've apologized to your Pack, then we can start telling both our Packs about the merger. If that's alright with you, of course. I know that my Pack won't be fussy about it. They just want to see me happy and they won't care if it comes with many stipulations. What about your Pack? Do you think they'll give you problems?"
Rolus could hear the dread in Luke's voice. He didn't like seeing Luke stressed over the merger, but it was also not a good idea to give him false hope.
"My Council supports us and they don't care if our bond comes with the many stipulations. But the Elders are the ones going to be a problem," he said, running his hand in circles on Luke's back. "But I promise you this time, I'm not letting anything come in between our union."
Luke nodded, putting his head on Rolus' shoulder.
"Let's hope everything works out in the end," that's all Luke said before snuggling against his mate.

The next morning, Luke was a ball of nerves. He kept on rehearsing all over again in the car ride to Rolus' Pack. He kept on asking Rolus if the apology was enough, or if he should word it differently. Rolus kept on reassuring him that the apology was enough and that the Pack would appreciate the effort.
It was the truth. They would appreciate it even though it won't bring their loved ones back.
When they pulled up in front of the Pack House, Luke didn't want to get out of the car. So Rolus stayed with him, showering him with words of encouragement.
"Sierra is on your side. She'll support you. She's on our side. So please stop worrying, Luke," he reassured.
Luke sighed, but Rolus could still feel his worry through the bond. They both got out of the car, Luke walking behind Rolus, using him as a shield against invisible forces.
The way Luke was worrying through the bond was also starting to make Rolus worry. He gently took Luke's hand in his own, trying to get the contact so that he could feel better.
