It was a long shot to beg Luke to reconsider. Rolus kept at that for the two days, until it was time to go to Michael Rog. They didn't talk in the car.

Rolus was scared, rightfully so. As much as he wanted to be as close to luke as he could in his 'last' moments, Rolus could not pretend it was okay. Luke was driving and Rolus was at the backseat.

They fought when they left Black Moon, hence the silence from them both.

It was a six hour drive, and Rolus didn't want to spend it wallowing, being mad at his mate. If it was his last moments, then he wanted to spend them together.

"You die, I'm killing myself," Rolus said that out of the blue, startling Luke to the point where he almost lost control of the car.

"Excuse me?"

"I'm killing myself. I'm not spending even a day in a world where you're not there. I'm not going to subject myself to the pain of a dead mate."

"Are you hearing yourself right now? Stop being selfish, Rolus. How do you expect me to live my life without my memories?" Luke asked, voice low, like he didn't want to break the already fractured atmosphere.

"I expect you to live your life with me, Luke. I don't want to die. I don't want you to die." The admission seemed to fall on deaf ears.

"I don't want to hate you for the rest of our lives, Rolus. I don't want to live with whatifs. Won't you understand this?"

Rolus kept quiet. They've had this conversation over a thousand times, but Luke still wouldn't relent. Rolus didn't want to let it go, but for the sake of peace, he was going to.

"I'll get through this, I promise. I won't make you mateless anytime soon."

Rolus almost smiled. He loved Luke's optimism, even though it was not enough to put his worries to rest.

For the remainder of the ride,  no one started a fight. It was the longest six hours of Rolus' life, even though he didn't want the drive to end.

It did end, much to his dismay. They drove through the forest, a ten minutes drive to Bush Lake Pack. Luke had already made arrangements with the Pack to visit. Their Alpha knew of the visit, and had allowed to accommodate them until Luke recovered.

The word recovered didn't sit well with him. Was there something he had to recover from?

Rolus had decided that he would question Michael Rog, try to make him convince Luke this was a bad idea.

When they pulled up to the Pack gate, Rolus could see the three story Pack House, and small bungalow houses scattered around the village. There were flowers everywhere. It felt like they stepped into a botanical garden.

Rolus averted his eyes to the Pack House. The gate was opened, and Luke drove inside the premises.

There were kids outside, all looking at their car. Some ran inside houses.

When Luke parked, he turned around and tried to smile. "Here we are."

Rolus nodded, and didn't even try to smile. He was breaking all over again. Luke smiled without teeth, and it looked fake.

Rolus just shook his head and opened his door.

He went around the car and took out their bags from the back.

There were people in front of the Pack House. Rolus could see Alpha Moret and his Council. They all looked friendly enough that Rolus let his guard down a bit. At one point, he had to trust the Pack since both their lives were in their hands.
