The dinner went smoothly. It was Alpha Moret joined by his Council, Luke, and Rolus. He explained that they usually ate together with everyone, but if they had guests, they would eat separately.
It was mostly Alpha Moret, Luke and Beta Lois engaging in conversation. Rolus chipped in when required.
Gamma Brian and Head Warrior Annabel didn't say much. It was actually a relief.
What Alpha Moret mostly asked were general questions about the Black Moon Pack. How many members, any businesses owned, how many Truth Seekers and Pack Doctors.
Beta Lois tried several times to include everyone in the conversations, but gave up when she saw their uncooperativeness.
When Alpha Moret asked about Rolus' Pack, Luke answered on Rolus' behalf. Rolus did answer once in a while.
"... seems like a great Pack dynamic, really. You said you've been mates for three years?" Alpha Moret asked, making Rolus definately pay attention.
Luke replied, "That's right."
Alpha Moret cut into his steak, then ate a piece. He grabbed his wine glass and drank. "And still live in different Packs?"
Rolus nearly choked on his wine. He picked the wrong time to try to drink.
Luke glanced at him, then focused his attention back on Alpha Moret. "We are different Packs, and with our history, both our Packs are not yet willing to merge. We are working on the merger, but it's taking us longer to actually get it off the ground."
"Makes sense. Still a bit cruel to separate mates, but well, I guess it's hard to erase history wirh only a few years. Goodluck on that."
Rolus could finally breathe.
The conversation flowed again, with Beta Lois taking charge.
At one point, Lois mentioned Michael Rog. "He's had a few patients before. I don't know where you heard he's only treated one patient. I think he's had about fifteen the last four years. Was it fifteen, Brian?"
Brian groaned from the question. "Yes, Lois."
"What do you mean fifteen?" Rolus asked. Luke stepped on his foot.
Lois looked at his Alpha. They seemed to mind-link.
Alpha Moret sighed, pushing his plate away. He linked his fingers together and looked at both Luke and Rolus. "Michael has had people come to him with problems since forever. Many came. He cured most of them. What he's never cured was what you're here for. He's had trials before, and still does. He's not been successful. They died."
Luke was not going ahead with the treatment. No way was he going to take that chance. "How many died?" Rolus asked
Alpha Moret glanced at Beta Lois, who nodded. "Thirty three. Two survived, but they are having problems."
Luke and Rolus looked at each other. Luke had doubts, but Rolus was fuming. He was not letting his mate die at the hands of a murderer disguised as a healer.
"Alpha Moret, tomorrow we'll be taking our leave. Thank you for your hospitality. We are not going ahead with the treatment," Rolus said, voice calm.
Luke on the other hand, was visibly upset. "Rolus, it's my decision. I'm going ahead."
Rolus turned to him, eyes fiery red. "No you're not. We are leaving. This is too risky, Luke! Michael has had thirty five test subjects, and he killed them. What don't you understand? You want to be his thirty sixth victim?"
"Maybe this time will be different."
Rolus chuckled in disbelief. "And you're stupid enough to believe what just came out of your mouth?"
