The morning came bright and early. Luke didn't manage to sleep much last night. So, he slept in.

When he awoke, he saw Rolus on his study table with his laptop open.

When Rolus noticed his mate was awake, he closed the laptop and stood up. He went to the bed, getting in next to Luke. "Had a long night?" he asked, kissing his forehead.

Luke nodded, but didn't say much. His mind was still troubled, and Rolus picked up on that. "I'll be fine, don't worry," he assured.

"Last night, I felt you were distressed. I didn't want to say anything, but now I see you're still stressed. Anything on your mind?" Rolus asked, his hand finding Luke's.

Luke sighed. It was not fair that Rolus could feel his emotions. It was not fair at all. "I don't want to talk about it now."

Luke could hear that Rolus wanted to say something, but he held his tongue. Good. Luke didn't want to ruin his morning.

"When are we going back to your Pack? I don't want them thinking I stole you," Rolus said, kissing Luke's head.

"I think I'll be going back on my own. Just for today. I want to figure something out," Luke said. Rolus let go of his hand, sitting up.

"What's going on? Did I do something? Please talk to me," he said, voice a bit strained.

Luke sat up too. He felt bad because they've been joined at the hip the last weeks. He also knew that Rolus would be in pain if they were to separate for a while. He didn't want that for his mate, but this was necessary. He needed to decide on whether he wanted to go ahead with the cure or not.

This was his life, and it was going to be a long one. He didn't want to spend it with regrets. He knew he was still young and they would make new memories as years went by, but he still wanted the two years that were taken from him. He wanted to love his mate fully. He wanted to know how it felt when his mate chose him. He wanted to know how it felt when Rolus found him and claimed him as his mate.

He wanted to know how it felt to love his mate without any boundaries or insecurities. He didn't want to spend his life with what-ifs.

"I'll be alright. I just need to be alone for a day. I promise I will talk to you tomorrow. I just need this day for myself," Luke reassured, smiling at his mate. It was a sad smile.

Rolus didn't return it. He didn't look like he understood. "Ok." That's all he said.

"Thank you. I will call tonight. I promise," Luke said, then kissed his mate's cheek. He got off the bed and went to shower.

It was the saddest thing to see Rolus so crestfallen. He looked so sad when Luke got in the car. Luke's heart was breaking seeing that look on his mate's face, but he needed to be on his own so that he could make the right decision.

He just hoped Sierra would speak with Rolus like she promised.

When he arrived back at his Pack, he called a meeting with his Council to discuss the cure.

It was wrong of him to seek the opinion of his Council and not his mate, but that's what his Council was there for.

"I don't think you should be risking your life, Luke. What will we do without you? What if something goes wrong?" Macey said, rubbing her temples.

They all had mixed reactions just as he expected. Peter was mad, and he had stormed out when Luke told them that he wanted to go ahead with the cure.

"It's two years, Luke. It's not worth the many more years you'll live. Maybe your memories will resurface with time," Tamera supplied.
