Luke didn't want to leave the bedroom. He claimed he couldn't face the Pack after getting one of them banished. Rolus understood and went out when Anna was escorted from the Pack. He really did understand, but a small part of him wished to have his mate by his side, dealing with that together side by side. That way, everyone would get used to seeing them together.
The Pack was upset. Some at her and some at their Alpha. Did Rolus care? Of course he did, but he was merely waiting for the night so that he could address the Pack.
Luke got a knock on the door, and Sierra entered without him letting him in. She was a bit abrasive when she joined Luke in the kitchen. A bit irritated at her, but mostly awkward.
He felt out of place and awkward because he didn't know how to talk with Sierra, especially when he was told that they didn't see eye to eye.
"I- Thank you for being on my side. I know it's not easy being on it," Luke said, fiddling with his mug. To make matters worse, some of the tea he had splashed a bit on his fingers. He put the mug down and laced his fingers together to avoid fidgeting.
Sierra was watching him keenly, which unnerved him. "I'll always be on your side," she said, trying to smile at him, but Luke could see it was forced. At least she was also trying to patch things back? Luke didn't even know anymore.
"And I'm sorry about the lady who was banished. I didn't mean to cause trouble," Luke continued.
Sierra sighed, folding her arms over her chest. "It's alright. Look, I didn't come here for that. I came here to inform you of some developments regarding your memory loss. I'm going against my Alpha for what I'm about to tell you."
Luke was interested. "You can tell me. I'm sure Rolus will understand."
Sierra seemed nervous all of a sudden when she said, "Rolus didn't want you to know because the cure is risky."
"You found the cure?" Luke asked, in disbelief. Rolus wouldn't keep such huge news from him, would he?
"Yes, but it's very risky. We only know of one person who used it, and they didn't survive. That's why Rolus didn't want you to know about it. But the person I got it from said she had refined it, and there's a 50/50 chance of it working."
"And Rolus thought to hide it from me because?" Luke asked, a bit frazzled.
"Because you could die after consuming it. Look, I get his point. He's worried because he doesn't want to lose you. He'd rather you not regain your memory than take a chance with your life. I'm only telling you so that you can make the decision yourself. I do get Rolus' point, though," Sierra said, rubbing the back of her neck.
Luke didn't understand the dynamic between the two. Was Sierra always gong behind her Alpha's orders and doing as she pleased?
"Thank you for letting me know. I'm sure Rolus was never going to tell me, so thank you very much."
Sierra didn't look glad to have told Luke about the cure. She looked regretful and that worried Luke a bit on why she told him when she was going to have this reaction.
"I'll let Rolus know that I told you. It's better coming from me than you. I know he will be mad at me, so until I tell him myself, please don't. I promise I'll wait for him to finish with his duties and I'll tell him immediately."
Luke nodded in understanding, but he was angry. Was this how it's going to be for the rest of their lives? Rolus making decisions on his behalf as if he wasn't a fully functional grown man? Yes, Rolus was worried. Yes, he had every right to be, but it was not his decision to make.
Luke wanted his memories back. He wanted them all. The bad, the good. He wanted all of them. How could Rolus see a mate in him when he was just an entirely new person? The two years that were scrapped from his life were what made him Luke. Every single memory mattered.
Sometimes, there were these tiny doubts that everything was just a lie, and Rolus was playing him.
He sighed, trying to banish his thoughts. He did see the way Rolus looked at him. He looked at him like he hung the moon, like he was the only thing that mattered. Luke wanted to feel that way too. He wanted to feel what Rolus saw when he looked at his mate, him.
Would it be so bad to feel what he felt when his mate chose him? Maybe then, he would believe that Rolus was his mate. Luke wanted to relive the feelings he felt when he was near his mate. He knew they were nothing compared to what Rolus must feel, especially with the mate bond on his side. Luke was sure that what he felt for his mate then was wonderful.
Now, all he felt was something, but it was not enough. He was following Rolus blindly, not knowing if everything was real or not.
He felt so bad for feeling the way he felt, especially when he didn't communicate that with Rolus. It would only make Rolus feel bad and helpless. He didn't want Rolus to feel that way.
Rolus didn't come back until later in the night after their Pack meeting. He came back exhausted, throwing himself face down on the bed.
Luke had calmed down and didn't have the heart to ask him about the cure. He went out of the room to prepare a bath for his mate. When done, he told Rolus to freshen up to alleviate the tiredness. Rolus wanted Luke to join him, but he wasn't in the mood.
He felt bad refusing, but he was really not in the mood to entertain Rolus when he kept such big news from him. He knew Sierra didn't tell Rolus because if she did, then he would have talked about it with him.
He was itching to ask, but at the same time, he wanted to honor Sierra's word.
"What's wrong?" Rolus asked when he came out of the bathroom. He joined Luke on the bed and snuggled close to him.
"Nothing."
"Really?" Rolus mumbled, but Luke could hear that his mate was exhausted.
"Why don't you go to sleep? I'll be here when you wake up," Luke said, relieved when Rolus nodded.
Not even long, Rolus dosed off, leaving Luke with his loud thoughts. He was worried. He was scared about the cure. He was scared of the future and how everything would pan out, especially with Rolus' Pack hating him.
He brought that on himself, he knew.
He sighed, then tried to go to sleep. It was going to be a long night. His thoughts were loud all night.
