Three months had passed since my arrival in the human world and each day had been filled with new discoveries and learning. Living with Dumbledore was like having a personal guide to a world I had only glimpsed from the depths of the sea. His house became a school before Hogwarts.
During these months, I had learned how to speak, read and write in English, a skill that was entirely new to me as we merpeople had runes and langauge of our own. Dumbledore was a patient teacher, guiding me through the alphabet and the formation of words. Soon, I was able to read the many books in his library and take down notes on the parchment with ease. Thanks to a fast-learning potion.
One of the most thrilling aspects of my education was learning to use my magic wand. Under the sea I was able to use magic without any tool but here on land I needed a wand to direct my energy. Although, Dumbledore said I can cast wandless magic with practise. I learned how to lift objects with "Wingardium Leviosa," a spell that required precise pronunciation and a delicate flick of the wrist.
Fire, a marvel I had never encountered under the sea. Dumbledore taught me how to create flames with a simple "Incendio." Watching the fire dance at my command was mesmerizing and I spent hours practicing, creating small, controlled fires in the fireplace.
Potions in the wizarding world were very different from anything I had made underwater. The ingredients were exotic and varied, from powdered unicorn horn to crushed moonstone. Dumbledore guided me through the delicate process of potion-making. The first potion I brewed successfully was a simple calming draught. I was so proud of myself.
Dumbledore also introduced me to the plants and animals of the human world. We took trips to the countryside, where he pointed out various plants and herbs, teaching me their names and properties. I learned to identify ingredients like mandrake root and gillyweed, plants I had never seen before. We encountered magical creatures as well and they were fascinating.
Living among humans, I had to adapt to their customs and way of life: their food, dressing, language and mentality. Dumbledore taught me about human technology, from simple items like quills and ink to more complex inventions like clocks and telescopes. I marveled at the intelligence of humans and their ability to create tools that made life more convenient. I understand why my aunt Ariel "the little mermaid" was fascinated by human world and why did she want to become part of their world.
The past three months had been a whirlwind of learning and discovery. One afternoon, I heard footsteps behind me. It was Albus Dumbledore. He clapped his hands together, a twinkle of excitement in his eyes. "Now, Adrian, get your things ready. We're going to Hogwarts tomorrow."
HEY DEARIES! I'm sorry this has to be the shortest chapter in the story. I didn't want to get into details as I preferred to summarise the journey of Adrian on land. On the other side, he's going to Hogwarts tomorrow... Are you ready to embark a new adventure?
What secrets await Adrian at Hogwarts that Dumbledore has yet to reveal? Will Adrian uncover hidden truths about himself while at Hogwarts?
