The air was filled with a sense of anticipation and excitement as Halloween approached at Hogwarts. This year, the Samhain Feast was to be a grand affair, with everyone encouraged to dress in costumes reflecting their personality. The Great Hall was transformed into a hauntingly beautiful space, with floating pumpkins enchanted candles and ghostly decorations.
I stood in front of the mirror in my dormitory, adjusting the last of my sea-themed accessories. My costume: the "Prince of the Sea" was inspired by my merman nature. I wore blue marine robe decorated with little sea shells and pearls. The sleeves were ornated with silver sea waves shapes. Around my waist was a dark blue leather belt professor slughorn gifted me in winter holidqys.
I glanced over at Tom, who was adjusting his own costume. He had chosen to dress as a dark sorcerer, his outfit a stark contrast to mine. He wore a long, black robe that seemed to absorb the light, with silver runes etched along the sleeves and hem. A hooded cloak shadowed his face. The look was completed with a skull mask that covered the upper half of his face, leaving only his piercing eyes visible.
As we made our way to the Great Hall, I couldn't help but feel a thrill of excitement. The hall was filled with students in an array of costumes, each more elaborate than the last. Iris had chosen to dress as... I don't know what's that, her natural allure enhanced by a flowing, silver gown and a delicate feathered mask. Rose, ever the scholar, was dressed as Cleopatra, her gown covered in magical white spakles nd her hair woven with enchanted feathers and a golden luxurious crown.
"Adrian, you look incredible!" Iris exclaimed as she saw me. "Like you just stepped out of the ocean."
"You too" I replied with a smile. "Rose is Empress Cleopatra for sure but Iris, what are you tonight?"
"As a Veela of course! Charming right?"
Rose nodded in agreement. "And Tom, you look every bit the dark sorcerer. Very fitting."
Tom gave a slight nod before he turned away. "I'd say the same about you."
The feast was a marvel to behold. The tables were laden with a variety of seasonal foods, from roast pumpkin to candied apples and the house elves had outdone themselves with a display of magical desserts that floated just above the tables, ready to be plucked from the air. Music filled the hall, adding to the festive atmosphere.
As the Halloween festivities continued in the Great Hall, I found myself engrossed in conversation with little Hagrid, who roared with laughter dressed as a jovial dragon and Fleatmont Potter, who cut a striking figure as an auror. Longbottom, regal in her gown as forest fairy.
In the midst of this happy spooky moment, Tom approached with purpose, his costume as a dark sorcerer emphasizing his commanding presence. He halted beside me, his gaze sharper tha usual.
"You" Tom's voice cut low and intense. "We need to talk."
I excused myself from my friends, following Tom to a quieter corner of the Great Hall. Tom's eyes bore into mine with a mix of frustration and determination.
"You're spending all your time with Gryffindors now? Shame on you." Tom began, his tone clipped.
I frowned, sensing the tension in Tom's words. "What's wrong with that?"
Tom's jaw tightened slightly. "Don't play dumb. They associate with mudbloods and you're a slytherin. That's beneath you." he stated coldly.
"That's irrelevant. They're my friends."
Tom's eyes narrowed, his voice lowering dangerously. "You're a fool. It reflects on you."
I squared my shoulders, feeling the heat of anger rise within me. "Fool? You're the one who doesn't understand friendship. Believe it or not it isn't about bloodlines."
Tom's smirk widened, a glint of amusement flickering in his dark eyes. "Friendship? People praise me in this castle just so you know" he scoffed.
I shot back "At least I don't manipulate people into respecting me out of fear."
His gaze darkened, the smirk vanishing. "Careful, Adrian. You're swimming in dangerous waters."
"Dangerous waters?" I replied, my voice dripping with sarcasm. "Water is my playground. If anyone's drowning, it'll be you. And I'll be the one to make u drown"
Tom's expression hardened. "I'm simply warning you before you make a mistake you'll regret."
"Is that a threat?" I challenged.
He leaned in closer, his voice a soft dangerous whisper. "It's a promise. You're too naive to see the storm coming. And when it hits, I'll watch you going under."
Rose interjected, her voice calm but firm "Is eveything alright here?"
Tom's gaze shifted to Rose briefly, his expression unreadable. "Everything's fine" he replied coolly, dismissing her with a subtle wave of his hand.
I couldn't let it go. "What's your problem, Riddle?" I pressed, my voice tinged with frustration. "You can't control who I'm friends with."
"You're naive if you think I care." He shot back, his voice low and threatening.
Before I could respond, he turned on his heel and walked away, his cloak billowing behind him like a shadowy curtain. Rose placed a comforting hand on my arm, her expression filled with concern.
"What was that about?" she asked softly.
I sighed, shaken by the encounter but unwilling to show weakness. "Nothing I can't handle" I replied, trying to steady my breathing.
Rose studied me for a moment, her gaze searching. "Come here darling, don't let him ruin your first Samhain Feast." she said quietly I nodded gratefully, thankful for her support.
