Y/n's POV:

"Can I pick the music?" I asked, Sam started the engine and nodded,
"Yeah sure, just connect your phone" she said, I smiled and connected my phone to the car. I went on my playlists and started playing Olivia Rodrigo, 'Lacy' started playing.

"So...Y/n" Sam started, it did not sound like it was gonna be a fun conversation, "When you were...well, dangling out the window...I heard you talking to someone, I thought you were talking to me but I couldn't hear what you were saying...that was until I heard you say...Amber" she explained, my eyes widened slightly, I looked out the window.

If Sam knew that I'd been seeing visions of Amber, she would send me to a psych-ward, she'd think I was insane. I shook my head,
"Nuh uh..." I said, deny deny deny.

"The fuck you mean 'nuh uh'" Sam laughed, I couldn't help but smile at her response, "Seriously though Y/n...have you been seeing Amber?" Sam asked.

"Well not much to see, she's dead" I joked, my voice cracked when I said the last part. It was hard to say. I tried to keep the conversation light hearted. I looked out the window, forcing back the tears that threatened to come out.

I felt Sam's hand rest on my thigh, I looked at her hand then at her, her eyes were on the road.
"Y/n...you don't have to joke about things to hide your true feelings...I know everything with Amber is really hard for you, just...for moment, with me, put down the wall, drop the facade..." she told me.

I looked down at her hand that rested on my thigh. I took it in my hands and fidgeted with it. I was quiet for a moment. I took a deep breath and finally spoke,
"It's just...so h-hard" I started, already breaking, my voice was shaking and the tears were already coming.

"To do all this stuff, like being at college and going to parties...without her with me" I said. Sam parked the car outside the side of the ice cream shop. She took her seatbelt off and turned to me, her full attention now on me.

"It's just...I-I know she would love the parties...she would love Anika...she would love this college" I explained, "but she can't experience any of that" I said, the tears became heavier and my voice broke more, making it harder and harder for me to get my words out.

Sam reached over, cupping my face gently with one hand. She wiped tears off my cheek with her thumb and moved some hair out the way of my face,
"I miss her so much Sammy..." I cried, my old nickname for Sam making a return.
