The next morning, Mal woke up to find herself nestled comfortably against Ben, who was still fast asleep. His arm was draped protectively around her, and she could feel the steady rhythm of his breathing. She smiled softly, feeling a sense of peace and contentment.
Carefully, she shifted slightly to get a better look at him. The early morning light filtered through the curtains, casting a warm glow on his face. Mal gently brushed a strand of hair from his forehead, not wanting to wake him just yet.
As she lay there, her mind wandered to the events of the past months. The challenges they had faced, the joys they had experienced, and the responsibilities that awaited them. But in this quiet moment, all she could feel was gratitude for the love and support they had for each other.
Eventually, Ben began to stir. His eyes fluttered open, and a sleepy smile spread across his face as he saw Mal. "Good morning," he murmured, his voice still groggy from sleep.
"Good morning," Mal replied, leaning in to kiss him softly. "How did you sleep?"
"Better than I have in a while," Ben said, stretching slightly but keeping his hold on her. "Waking up next to you always makes it better."
They stayed like that for a few more moments, enjoying the tranquility of the morning before the day's responsibilities would pull them apart. Finally, Mal sighed and shifted to sit up. "We should probably get started on the day. There's a lot to do."
Ben nodded, reluctantly letting her go. "You're right. But let's take our time getting ready. We deserve a little bit of a slow morning."
Mal smiled, appreciating the suggestion. "That sounds perfect."
They spent the next hour getting ready together, savoring the rare opportunity to move at a leisurely pace. As they dressed and prepared for the day, they talked about their plans, the upcoming meetings, and how they would balance their duties with their personal time.
Once they were both ready, they headed downstairs to join Belle, Beast, and Hades for breakfast. The morning sun filled the dining room with a warm light, creating a cheerful atmosphere.
"Good morning," Belle greeted them with a smile as they entered. "How did you sleep?"
"Very well, thank you," Ben replied, pulling out a chair for Mal before taking his seat. "It's good to have a bit of normalcy again."
Hades grinned, his eyes twinkling with mischief. "Normal is overrated, but I suppose it's necessary for running a kingdom."
They all laughed, and the conversation flowed easily as they enjoyed their meal. It was a welcome break from the intensity of the past few days, and it helped everyone recharge for the tasks ahead.
As they finished breakfast, Lumiere entered the dining hall with a stack of documents. "Your Majesties, the council has requested a meeting to discuss the recent developments. They await your presence at your earliest convenience."
