By night time the orphanage's windows weren't boarded up and looked brand new. As the building itself looked more stable and sound. Many of the villagers were complaining that they had to actually do hard work for once which Reina ignored as she checked up on the villagers from Kirka who were grouped up together.
"How are you guys holding up?" Reina asked curiously
"We'd be better with more capable hands. Having to teach grown adults how to use a hammer and a saw is tiring." One of the villagers asked
"I can only imagine. I had warn you guys they were dumb as door nails. I wasn't lying about that."
"No princess you didn't. We'll figure something out. I noticed while we were working over here that you had one of the villagers helping you out. How has that guy been doing?"
"Well actually, he's rather smart which I didn't expect. I'm partly curious on if he had snuck out when I did when I was younger to learn about things from Syrus Verra. Which if he did it'd make a lot of sense why he's so smart as he is. I am going to be leaving that man in charge of the orphans when we are done here. I am also thinking about having him be the Village chief as well, I know I can trust him and he's shown that he is hard working."
"Sounds like a plan to me." The villager said with a nod of his head
Reina went back to Verdon's villagers to see that Karl was sitting away from everyone else while he ate. She sat by him and smiled "You did a lot of good work today Karl, thank you for your help today."
"Y-You're welcome P-Princess, I-I'm glad...I'm glad to have helped as m-much as I could." He said with a smile
"I have a question for you Karl, you aren't going to be scorn for answering this I just am asking out of curiosity."
He looked at her confused as she placed her hands together "By chance did you sneak out when I did when I learnt from Syrus verra how to read and write?"
"Yes, I was curious on where you were going so late at night."
"Ah. I had a feeling. I have two questions and requests for you-you can deny both if you wish."
Karl nodded his head. "Of course what is it Princess?"
"Would you operate the orphanage and be the village chief of this village?"
Karl stiffened hearing her questions and requests "Y-You want m-me to be the one to be the village chief?! H-How come? I don't mind operating the o-orphanage that's all well and fine...B-But Village c-chief? I...I don't think I-I have what it takes."
"You are smart you have more drive than anyone else and you are the only villager here that hasn't complained about doing honest hard work. That's the type of person I'd like to be the village chief." She said with a smile
He placed his bowl down to the side before he let out a sigh "People a-aren't going to listen to me."
"Because of your stuttering?" Reina asked
He nodded his head "After being kicked out of the orphanage I've been living on the streets since I was eighteen. N-no one cares about me."
"No one cared about me either, remember I was kicked out of this village at age ten. I was still a kid when that happened." Reina said placing a hand on her chest where her heart was. "If they don't listen to you Calvin will be sure that they do."
He nodded his head as there were screams of horror from the villagers as monsters came into the village. "Karl take the villagers into the orphanage now!" Reina said as she got up quickly and pushed the monsters back
Karl did what he was told as Calvin and Sylus both got out of the orphanage to see what was the commotion about. When they saw Reina taking on a chimera on her own, they rushed towards where she was to assist her. Sylus sliced the snake head in to two as Calvin used the buildings near by to get on top of the monster as he went straight for the bird head slicing it off with his daggers. The lion head of the trio roared out and went straight for Reina only for her to use lightning on the monster which just pissed it off. Sylus grabbed her to get her out of the way of it's left paw. When Reina realized just how quick Sylus was she looked at him with a sad smile.
"Sorry."
"Don't be, that thing is off the hinges. Stay put you've done enough. Let us deal with it."
"Okay."
Sylus placed her down near the orphanage before he went back to help Calvin out. Once the chimera was down Calvin was confused how was a chimera able to come into the village? Monsters shouldn't have been able to get into the village. All of the villages should have been protected by magic from the noble casters. Calvin marked the chimera which transported it out of the village before he looked at the two entry ways into the village. He noticed that the blessing seals were torn off on both. he furrowed his eyebrows. "Well that explains the bad repair of this village. Princess come here." Calvin said before he looked at Reina
Reina rushed over to Calvin "Yes?"
"You have the highest amount of magic I've ever seen which is a lot. I'm going to make protective tags on this entrance and the other. I need you to do a protection shield spell over this village."
"I've never done something like that before though. I've only ever done healing spells and offensive spells." Reina said sadly shaking her head
"Hm...how to explain what you have to do. Oh! you've lived in Kirka for six years yeah?"
She nodded her head. "Yes."
"Think about that as you cast, it will activate the tags I will be making."
"Okay where do I need to stand?"
"Near the barn fire just don't get too close to it."
"Right okay let me know when you are good to go." Reina said before she went by the barn fire
When she did Sylus went up to her. "So what's going on here?"
"The protective barrier that should have been around the village was torn off, Calvin is remaking the protection tags. He wants me to make the barrier again. It's going to be a first for me, it might make me pass out."
"If you do I'll catch you, just focus on what you need to do alright princess?"
She nodded her head as she smiled up at him. "Okay Sylus."
