POV. Narrator
With each passing day, the wedding between Neru and Dyra got closer and closer, and the restless fox saw the inevitable approaching while feeling increasingly at a dead end with nothing to do.
Neru's advances were getting worse and worse, and sometimes he wanted to grab her by force. All of this was just a taste of what was to come.
Neru no longer left her alone. Sometimes Dyra would go far away, but he would go after her and no one did anything to defend her. For a free-spirited person like Dyra, living next to someone like Neru would be a punishment.
Dyra was with Norar, her best friend, making winter clothes. Dyra looked at Norar and said softly, "Norar!"
- Oh, no, Dyra, not this again! - said her friend.
- I don't want to marry Neru - said Dyra.
- You have no idea of the dangers out there, it's very dangerous out there, the world is very cruel - Norar said in a whisper.
- I don't want to end up like my mother - Dyra said.
- I don't want to get married either - Norar said in a sigh.
- Really? - Dyra asked, surprised, to her friend who was always so proper.
- Yes - I'm scared - Norar said in a whisper.
- Let's run away from here together - Dyra said softly.
The two fell silent when Neru entered the blanket where the two were sewing and, bending down, gave Dyra a huge kiss on the snout and then licked her neck. Dyra accepted that gesture, feeling uncomfortable and disgusted by Neru's face.
Neru looked at Dyra and all she saw was a look of contempt.
Neru smiled, looked back at Norar and smiled.
Neru stood up and went to Dyra's friend, giving her a kiss on the mouth.
Norar was nervous and surprised by what she had just seen.
- You're no good! - Dyra said angrily, getting up and punching Neru in the back.
Neru smiled and happily got out of the blanket, thinking that Dyra was jealous of them, but it wasn't jealousy that Dyra felt, but rather contempt.
- Are you okay? Dyra asked Norar, who had just been kissed.
- I am - Norar said nervously, rubbing her mouth.
- What got into his head? - Norar asked Dyra.
- He's no good, I hate him - Dyra said irritated.
- Now do you understand why I want to run away? - Dyra asked.
- Norar remained silent, trying to process everything that had just happened before her eyes.
Some screams of pain began to echo from the left where the two were and they both looked in the same direction and saw Neru with a thin wooden club interrogating some prisoners.
- I don't know if this will work - said Norar after a few minutes.
- I know how to hunt better than many men in the tribe - said Dyra.
- But I'm very scared - said Norar foreseeing everything that was going to happen.
- Then I'll go alone, I'm not going to marry that monster - said Dyra whispering as she watched Neru beat the prisoner and the prisoner scream madly in pain.
Norar's ears were down, bothered by hearing those screams.
Neru hit very hard and didn't choose where to hit.
