Ch 129: The crack in the heart

Ace

Distant voices yell things while nothing reaches my ear but an echo, an echo chanting...'no....no..no' over and over again like a vicious loop, I can't pull my eyes away from the burning building in the middle of nowhere, debris lie around and my teams lay low close to me, a white soundless tune repeats in my head, a shout... I hear a shout full of agony and it's not until Alex's face comes to my view replacing the burning building as he shakes me that I realise that scream tore from my throat.

"Ace.... Alexander.... Alec.... Focus, you can't drift apart now, not now... we don't know if she was in there... hold onto your emotions brother," he says urgently.

I don't know how I can feel this but she was there, I can feel it in my bones... she was here... a dread fills my heart as my insides chill out and I fall to my knees...my gaze sole focused on the burning building.

Tears stream down my face as a shout so raw it vibrates my insides bleed escapes from my throat as I look at the sky. Alex kneels down beside me as he pulls me in for a hug, my hands stay by my side though as tears blur my vision.

A coldness blankets my body as I feel a cold rage surrounding my brain, "If she has died, I can assure you my wrath will know no bounds, I will hunt the fuckers who are responsible before I join my wife in whatever realm she has gone too." I say with a dead voice and from the look on Alex's face, I know he can see the truth behind every word I spoke.

"The firefighters are on their way..." that's all he says before standing up with me and dialling a number on his cell, no doubt to Scar.

I look at the burning building for I don't know how long until the distant sound of sirens come closer and closer. Nobody looks at me twice and all my men are looking at me cautiously before Viktor comes beside me with a bottle of water, I don't take it, my eyes watching the scene as water and extinguishers are used to put out the fire.

"Alec,..." My best friend's voice is cautious.

"Not now Viktor." I say with a dead voice, he curses under his breath before coming to stand in front of me. his jaw is clenched and his eyes are more serious than I have ever seen.

"Your father... he has disappeared again Ace." He says solemnly. I nod my head, my eyes finding the house again.

"Also... Lev has disappeared too Alec." My eyes swing back to his.

"Lev?" I question.

"Yeah, we have been trying to get in contact with him for the past twenty-four hours to no avail." Lev is one of my trusted hackers, I found him two years back in a rough condition outside an illegal fighting club, he had been my reliable man ever since.

"Nobody knows where he is?" I question Viktor.

"No, Aleksei has been trying to look for him but it's as if he has disappeared off the face of earth." I nod my head, Lev's disappearance isn't my focus right now.

"Ask Aleksei to look for my father, I want him within two hours." I say to Viktor before swinging my gaze back. The fire is almost out so I make my way towards it.

My steps stop a man shouts, "I found a body." he yells from somewhere deep inside. I brace myself before following the voice, dread filling me with nausea with each step that I take.

Four men surround a body which looks charred, no features of it visible, my heart is in my throat as I slide closer to it, the men part the way, with a tight throat I reach for it's hand, the molten skin melting as air wooshes from my lungs and the pain in my throat intensifies.
