"Are we the hunters or are we the prey?"???. Red Room
July, 1995SOMETHING shattered and Vay jerked awake.
Her cheek was pressed against the floor, eyes shooting wide open at the sound. She remained absolutely still when she saw Uncle Kaz getting thrown across the room. He slammed into the standing closet with a painful crack, hitting the ground with a louder thud.
The Dreykov person was in the room and he didn't look particularly angry as he approached Uncle Kaz, who pushed himself up to sit.
Dreykov reached forward and grabbed Uncle Kaz by the hair. He pulled his fist back and Vay flinched when it collided with Uncle Kaz's face. She didn't understand why. She and Uncle Kaz hadn't touched anything so didn't that mean they hadn't made a mistake?
She swallowed hard, trying her best not to panic.
She wasn't supposed to be allowed to panic anyway.
"You do not get privileges whenever you ask for them, 'Zimir." Dreykov wiped a bead of blood from Uncle Kaz's cheek, who looked at anything but him. "You pay for privileges. And you do not get to ask of them when it involves that thing. You know what I accept and what I don't."
Vay squeezed her eyes shut, trying to focus on her own heartbeat– trying her best to calm herself before she drew Dreykov's attention.
She was scared.
She was scared for Uncle Kaz and she wante–was supposed to protect him but she couldn't– not against a primary handler.
Her hand pressed against the ground while the other remained tucked around herself.
"Yes, Master." Uncle Kaz gasped painfully. "I'm sorry, Master, please—please don't hurt her."
Dreykov released him and Uncle Kaz pulled himself to his knees. He kicked him and Uncle Kaz tumbled back on his side, spitting blood. He inhaled deeply, breath rattling as Dreykov finally turned, approaching a Black Widow who was standing in the corner of the room with a warm towel.
Dreykov wiped blood off his hands before exiting the room.
The Black Widow followed suit, leaving Uncle Kaz and Vay alone.
The moment the door shut Vay shot to her feet and darted towards Uncle Kaz. He looked at her from the floor, bruises forming on his face, cuts littering his skin. He looked like he was in pain. She sat down next to him, looking back and forth to see the room was a mess. The bathroom door was open and there was glass shattered on the floor. The side desk next to the bed had been thrown across the room and other items like clothing hangers and boxes were broken.
