"What are you if not the broken pieces of a perfect soul?"

"CARE to explain since you decided to speak ancient shit?" Commander Rumlow stood in front of the cell, arms crossed over his chest. "And don't you dare lie to me."

Vay pursed her lips as she gazed at Loki, who had fallen asleep on her shoulder, leaning against her with his entire body. It seemed like Loki hadn't slept at all– like he was forcing himself to stay awake so he could complete his objective as quickly as possible.

She was awfully angry about the implication, because it meant Loki was suffering, even without the people who hurt him. And sure, even though it had been a long time since she'd seen him, she was still very comfortable with him. He meant something to her– more than most– and that was important. Loki was important to her, and she didn't want him to get hurt.

It was starting to aggravate her.

"When I was four or five, I don't remember really, everytime I entered cryostasis I would be transported to a place called Asgard." She paused. "It's where Loki comes from. I kind of just. . .appeared in the garden one day and Loki brought me inside to the palace– Asgard's palace. I told everyone about him every time they took me out of cryostasis. Commander Rumlow– not you, but your grandfather– he didn't believe me. Commander Rumlow's son– your Papa?- he also didn't believe me. No one believed me when I talked about Loki. You didn't believe me either."

Vay paused when Loki shifted slightly, his expression soft and still far in a deep sleep. She adjusted her shoulder a little so he was a bit more comfortable. Her wing wrapped around him like a blanket before she glanced at Commander Rumlow.

He was looking less and less upset– that was good.

"And then, one day, they put me in cryostasis and it was just empty. I was in a dark place, traveled down dark halls where voices echoed all the time. They said things I didn't understand– about Loki, about his brother, about me. I–" she inhaled deeply, "I lost contact with Loki. I started doubting he was real– everyone kept saying he wasn't real. So I thought. . .and then last year, I failed my first mission. Remember when Sasha got so angry he locked me away for a week, no food, no water, nothing?"

Commander Rumlow nodded.

"It's cause of him." She inclined her head towards Loki. "He was there. His brother– the target, some blonde guy– I guess it was his brother. And um. . .I spared him because of it. Sasha didn't believe me when I told him I knew him. But I do. I have. He promised to marry me."
