"I know that you're waiting for me like a dog."Grand Forks, North Dakota
November, 1995VAY yawned sleepily as she felt someone pick her up. She stretched her arms and legs out, almost falling out of whoever– oh Papa's– arms. He caught her before she could roll out of his grip. She glanced back and forth and saw the Commander and the rest of the STRIKE: Alpha team There was a transport vehicle parked in front of the safehouse.
Actually there were multiple black vans parked at the safehouse, three of them to be exact.
Vay felt her entire body convulse with pure fear. She scrambled out of her Papa's arms and dropped to the ground. All sleep left her eyes as her body became extremely stiff, standing directly next to her Papa as her heart hammered in her chest.
The door to one of the vehicles had opened and Uncle Pierce had exited with another agent. Another agent that Vay recognized.
She choked on her breath, her body shaking without her permission. Her wings closed tightly behind her as the agent came closer.
Papa stepped in front of the agent before he could get closer.
Vay still didn't move.
"What a surprise." Uncle Pierce spoke to the Commander. "I thought all of you would be dead."
Commander Rumlow crossed his arms over his chest.
"Thanks for all the faith you have in us, Pierce." Commander Rumlow replied sarcastically.
Uncle Pierce turned his eyes to Vay and Papa.
Uncle Pierce stepped past the Commander.
He walked towards Vay and Papa.
Papa was still standing in front of her protectively, his arms crossed over his chest as he stared at the agent; daring the agent to come any closer. The agent glanced back when he saw Uncle Pierce. He held his hands up in surrender, taking a step to the side as Uncle Pierce stood directly in front of Papa.
Vay looked up at Uncle Pierce, frozen and unable to do anything.
He looked at her for a moment, then returned his eyes back on Papa. He placed a hand on the side of Papa's neck, his finger tapping against his skin. Papa didn't move a single muscle as Uncle Pierce leaned forward, inspecting his eyes.
"Someone's gotten free." Uncle Pierce smiled. "That's unfortunate."
Papa's shoulders rose as he shrank in on himself, leaning into Uncle Pierce's hand.
