"Betrayal burns and there's no hiding."Grand Forks, North Dakota
November, 1995UNCLE Rollins carefully pushed her wings into the box attached to her back, where her dragon plushie was carefully strapped in. Her wings had grown longer, so it was harder for them to fit inside. But they were flexible enough to fold a little at the ends. Uncle Rollins was gentle so Vay didn't feel so bad while he hid them away.
He picked her up, just as Papa moved forward, grasping her between his arms. He looked at Uncle Rollins, an unsure expression on Papa's face. Vay decided she wouldn't question it as she climbed onto her Papa's back.
Commander Rumlow entered the room, right behind Papa.
"I called in HYDRA police. They'll be giving us a ride to the place." He said. "We're going as undercover police–Winter, you don't gotta say anything. Actually it would be better if you didn't talk at all; and you have the mask, anyway."
"Yes, Commander." Papa replied softly.
Commander Rumlow's eyes darted to Uncle Rollins, before returning back on Vay. He reached forward, placing a gentle hand on her head. He patted her before pulling back. He turned around, holstering a pistol from one of the tables as he did so.
Uncle Rollins followed behind him.
Vay didn't have to follow at all as Papa carried her, stepping behind them. Papa's weapons were all tucked neatly into his sides and holsters– not that he really needed any of them for this mission.
Vay heard she was going to eat a lot of light today.
"Agent Merce, we're heading out." Commander Rumlow called as he grabbed one of the keys to the house.
Agent Merce was chomping on a piece of toast with some peanut butter and jam on it. Agent Westfahl stood next to her with another piece of toast, also eating it. He didn't pay them much attention, but Agent Merce did.
She raised an eyebrow as she took another bite, watching them.
"You sure you got this one?" Agent Merce asked. "Don't need an extra buddy?"
Commander Rumlow rolled his eyes.
"Nah, won't be enough room in the car." He gave her a half-hearted wave. "See ya."
Commander Rumlow opened the door.
Vay darted out of her Papa's arms, stepping out into the gravel path. She looked up at the sun, squinting a little at the bright light. She would always enjoy looking around outside. Outside was where she liked to be the most, not that Uncle Pierce let her go out often.
