LILITH

I did it.

I did it.

I couldn't believe it at first, that was why I ended up trying for the second time.

What I had started as a mere test had now turned into my greatest accomplishment in life, so far.

My heart raced, my face almost hurt from all the smiling but I still jumped up and down in joy, not minding the crowd around me.

I had made it. Taking the elevator five floors up and down, and then a second time, just to be sure it wasn't out of luck.

I smiled at no one in particular, the thrill of just coming out of that confined space still running through my veins.

There were people all over the lobby where I was standing. I had been sent by our hospital to deliver a report at an health seminar that had just ended.

Everyone around me seemed to be socializing, a good word being exchanged here and there but I couldn't think of joining.

I stared up at the large building, approximately thirty floors but I was immensely proud of the five I'd reached.

Then I thought of Lorenzo. He would definitely be happy to hear this achievement. I wouldn't have come this far without him.

I dialled his number while walking through the dispersing crowd, unable to wait till evening when we'd promised to meet.

"Lilith?" His tired voice answered after two seconds and my smile grew upon hearing his voice.

"Is the seminar over?" He asked when I offered no response.

"Yes, it ended twenty minutes ago." I breathed out, walking to stand at a corner where no one could bump into me.

"Everything went well?" I briefed him a few details about the seminar while looking around me.

People were beginning to leave, only a few lingered around and from what I could tell, it was those who seemed like friends.

"Enzo?" I called for his attention to divert him from work.

"Yes love?" I swooned at the softness in his voice.

"I made it." I said, smiling at my partial reflection on the transparent glass.

"I took the lift today. Five floors up and down, twice." I held my phone closer to my ear, waiting for his reply.

"I-I...that's so great. Congratulations, love." He whisper shouted, offering more sweet affirmations.

"I'm so proud of you, Venesse. I wish I was there to see you."

I then narrated to him how all this had happened, not omitting any detail, even what seemed unnecessary.

"How are you feeling now? Are you breathing fine?" His questions kicked in after I was done.

"Do you feel overwhelmed? Is there anyone around you? Please tell me you're fine." He worried, not letting me say a word.

"Can I see you?" He pleaded over the phone and I agreed to switch the call to video.

The furrow on his eyebrows straightened when the call connected. He breathed out in relief after seeing me.

"See? I'm very fine." I chuckled at his worried face as he leaned back into the driver seat of his car.

"Look at the area around me. It's just like our hospital." I turned the camera around so that he'd see that I was safe here.
