LILITH
"Enzo, we're going to be late." I knocked the bathroom door, wondering what was taking him so long.
"I'm done, love." He responded back but still not opening the door.
"Are you looking for something?" I asked again when I heard lots of shuffling.
"I can't find the black bowtie you bought me." He sighed, "It's always here."
I turned around and walked into his closet, picking up the bowtie he was tirelessly searching for.
He had put it there last night after pairing up his outfit for today's event; the annual general meeting for the nomination of top medical projects.
"Your tie is here," he opened the door right away, sighing in relief like it a prized possession.
"I see old age is catching up with you," I chuckled, helping him put on his tie. With my pearly white heels, I reached the back of his neck with ease.
"I love it when you know where I've placed my things." He smiled, adjusting a fallen strand of my hair off my face.
"And why is that?" I asked, standing back to adjust his collar.
He didn't reply until I was done and when I looked up at his face, I knew why.
He was distracted. His eyes ran down my body, briefly looking into my eyes before resuming his staring.
"You're being so obvious," I lifted his chin with my index finger, forcefully bringing his eyes up.
"I can't help it. My girl's beautiful." He turned me around for a quick spin.
"Damn," he mumbled, and I smiled, already knowing where his eyes were settled on.
"Before you get distracted further, I'd like to give you your gift." I took out my purse, noticing how excited he grew.
"I customized this wallet for you." He unwrapped the cover and opened the inside to reveal a picture of us.
It was from that time during our hospital camp when I got to know about his love for photography.
The picture was engraved on the leather with a small quote below it. You light up my day.
Enzo ran his thumb over the picture saying, "You make my day brighter."
He kissed my forehead and hugged me in appreciation of the gift. I took out my phone to send him the other thing I'd prepared for him.
"I finished recording a one hour story for you." I said, after sending the audio to him.
"When I have a nightshift, you can play that on nights you have trouble falling asleep."
I explained, assuring him that it was an interesting one, even though it was supposed to put him to sleep.
"I-I...." He stammered while picking up my hands and stared at them instead of my looking at my face.
"Everyday, I wake up feeling grateful to have you. I can never imagine a world without you. Thank you for being there for me."
He hugged me again, this one tighter and longer than the first one. We then pulled away and smiled, exchanging a short kiss.
"Lemme pick up my hand bag so that we can leave." I didn't even move a step away before Enzo grabbed my arm.
"I already arranged everything for you." He led me to the living room where a black tote bag lay.
