Lion king III - Kiara's reign

Chapter 14

KIARA'S POV:  

It had been about 3 weeks since Kovu and I had made love. We've only done it 2 more times since it happened, but neither of them was at night. I don't know what happened to make him insist that we had to be at Pride Rock shortly after sunset. I asked him twice, but he insisted that there was no reason and changed the topic. 

  I know he's not telling me everything, but I can't get him to talk. Thanks to the environment he grew up in, he doesn't open up easily and doesn't usually express his emotions. I've already told him that keeping everything to himself wasn't healthy and that I'd always be here if he needed to vent, but he'd always say that everything was fine and that "my life couldn't be more perfect" and then give me a lick on the cheek.

  I'm a bit worried that he'll explode because he won't tell anyone. Of course, he still has Vitani, the animal he trusts the most. I hope that since he won't tell me anything, he'll at least talk to her. I've never asked him if he's talking to her, that could lead to an unnecessary argument if she told him. 

  We were on our way to the northern border of the kingdom to pick up Kion and Rani. He and I didn't want to damage our relationship by being apart, so we made a deal. I go to visit him, and he comes the next, so we each only have to travel every two months. As you can imagine, this month is his month.

  "Kiara?" Kovu asked, "were you listening?". I blinked twice to get out of my thoughts and focus on him.

  "No, Kovu, I'm sorry, I was just thinking..." I said in an attempt not to have to tell him what I was really thinking.

  "Thinking about what?"

  "Ammm... if if Rani will come with Kion this time", sometimes Rani can't come with him because of some royal commitments, but Kion never fails.

  "I think it's a bit difficult to know, but let's hope she comes. I know how much you love her to come, and these last few days you've been a bit down". He's right, I love when Rani comes, she's basically the little  sister i never had, but, wait, A BIT DOWN??

  "Why do you think that?" I asked defensively. Am I a bit upset? Yes, maybe because my mate doesn't tell me anything!

  "You're always cheerful with a smile on your face, always talking and laughing. In these last, I don't know, four days you've been a bit moody and quiet. I'm always here if you need to talk, you know?" I let out a small laugh with a touch of irony. "Why are you laughing?" he asked with a confused expression.

"I just think that's funny, because you expect that I open myself to you, but you're not capable to open yourself to me" he immediately stopped walking.

"Geez, there's no need to be rude. I was just trying to worry about you, but don't worry, it won't happen anytime soon."

"I'm not being rude, I was just talking to you about what I was thinking. I'm not rude because I don't feel comfortable enough to talk to you about the way you feel, why can't you understand that?" I started crying. I don't know why I'm making such a big deal out of this, but it really hurts to not be able to tell the one you love how you feel. He came towards me and nuzzled me.

"Oh Ki, I'm sorry. I didn't know you felt that way. And I'm also sorry that you think I don't trust you, it's just that it's extremely difficult for me to expose myself like that. You may not realize it, but I already say a lot of what I feel and what worries me compared to other animals." He put a paw around me and pulled me towards him into a hug.

"If you really trust me, why are you keeping secrets from me?"

"What are you talking about?" I took a step back from him and said,

"We've only done it two more times since it happened, but neither of them was at night. You insist that we had to be at Pride Rock just after sunset. I asked you twice the reason why, but you insisted there was no reason and changed the subject." He smiled, probably thinking that this is funny. While he's smiling I have tears running down my cheeks.

"I didn't tell you because I didn't want you o feel embarrassed. Do you wanna know why?" I nodded. "While you were being inspected by Rafiki, I decided to left to give you some privacy. When I came out, I saw that my whole family was there. Everyone was talking, except my father. He was looking quite angry. He started walking towards me.

"Listen, her parents may have fallen for that excuse, but I haven't. I know perfectly well that your brothers made it up. What they'll forget is that they've already used it on us. I'm not going to turn you in, but let this be a warning. If you ever spend another night with her doing what you know, I'll be the first to tell Simba. Be mad at me if you want, but you're not going to ruin Kiara's reputation just because you two want to have fun. You can do that for the rest of the day, but I want you home shortly after sunset. Is that clear?" I nodded. That's why I didn't tell you. I didn't want you to know that my father knew, you could feel uncomfortable to the point where you didn't want to do it anymore". He stopped talking and I was just staring at him with tears. I treated him so badly and he was just trying to do his best, I'm horrible "Hey, hey, look at me Ki. You don't need to be sad, you didn't knew the whole story" he pushed me into a hug and licked my cheek. I eventually stopped crying and said

"We should go now, Kion and Rani are probably in the Pridelands now"
