The silence between them hung in the air like a challenge, until Jungkook finally broke it, his voice low and even, "I think talking can be done from a distance too. You don't have to get so close." His words caught me off guard, and my eyes widened in surprise.
I hadn't expected him to say something like that, especially not with such an edge to his tone.
Jungkook's gaze remained fixed on Taehyung, who shook his head slightly, confusion etched on his face, before taking a step back.
But then, his signature calm smile returned, and he asked, "And who are you?" Jungkook's response was immediate, "I am her hus-" But I cut him off, my voice firm, "My boss."
Jungkook's eyes snapped to mine, shock and surprise written across his face, as if I'd just slapped him. I shifted my attention to Taehyung, who stared at me in utter silence, his eyes searching for answers.
"Your boss?" he asked, his tone laced with skepticism, as if trying to make sense of my sudden interruption.
I explained, my voice trailing off, "He happened to drop me off at the hospital. We coincidentally met earlier-" Taehyung nodded understandingly, but then I felt it- a piercing gaze boring into me.
I glanced to the side, and met Jungkook's stern expression, his eyes blazing with an intensity that made me freeze. The air seemed to vibrate with tension as our gazes locked, making the silence between us thick and heavy.
Is he angry-? I tried to comprehend. But before I could ponder further, Taehyung's voice broke the silence, drawing my attention back to him.
"Y/n, if it's fine, I'd like to have a talk with you in private," he said, his words making my eyebrows shoot up in surprise.
My lips parted slightly as I struggled to respond, but before I could, Jungkook cut in, his tone icy. "Can't that talk be done here?" His gaze snapped back to Taehyung, his eyes flashing with a hint of dislike.
Taehyung, however, remained unfazed, his calm demeanor a stark contrast to Jungkook's growing agitation. "It's a personal talk, so yes, it cannot be done here," he replied, his voice measured.
Taehyung's gaze shifted back to me, his eyes waiting for my response. I knew what he wanted to discuss- my mother's health...and I couldn't very well have that conversation here, not with Jungkook's increasingly hostile presence. But leaving him here...
I hadn't told Taehyung about my marriage to Jungkook, because of Jungkook's own terms and conditions in which he had stated to not reveal it to anyone and also Taehyung and I met under such circumstances where I didn't really bother sharing my personal life with him.
As I hesitated, lost in thought, Jungkook's voice jolted me back to reality. "You can just discuss it here-" But I stood firm, my voice gentle yet resolute. "I think we need to discuss it in private." Jungkook's words died on his lips, his face falling silent.
Slowly, I lifted my hand and removed Jungkook's from my shoulder, his grip lingering for a moment before he released me. The touch sent a shiver down my spine, while a mixture of emotions swirled inside me as I stepped away from him, towards Taehyung.
"I'll see you later," I whispered, my voice barely audible, as I cast a fleeting glance at Jungkook. His eyes locked onto mine, a piercing gaze that seemed to bore into my soul. I felt a shiver run down my spine as I turned to follow Taehyung, who had already begun to stride ahead.
As we walked, I could sense Jungkook's gaze lingering on me, a palpable presence that made my skin prickle. I didn't dare look back, fearing what I might see in his eyes. The air seemed to be filled with heavy tension, and unspoken words.
