"So what does he want?" Ella asked, her face serious as her eyes locked onto mine.
"I don't know..." I hesitated, staring down at the table. "I don't know what he wants," I repeated, frustration building in my voice.
"I tried. I thought I could figure out his intentions within a few days, but..." I trailed off, looking back up at her. "I found nothing. He's unreadable. His actions, his words-they don't make sense anymore."
A heavy silence fell between us as Ella sighed. "Are you sure this is all going according to your plan?"
Her question made me pause. I gave her a small nod. "Yes..." I said, though I wasn't even fully convinced. I met her gaze again, and just then, she reached into her bag and pulled out a few papers, placing them on the table.
"Then here," she said, her tone light but her expression serious.
I gave her a confused look, grabbing the papers and scanning through them. My eyes widened. "This is-"
"-the list of deals our company has signed," she finished for me, watching my reaction with a smirk.
"You mean even the deals that were..." I trailed off, not quite believing it.
"Yep, you're getting it," she grinned mischievously.
"How did you even get these?" I asked, still in shock.
She chuckled, leaning in closer. "I have my ways," she whispered.
I raised an eyebrow. "Did you... steal them?" I asked cautiously.
She gave me a playful but slightly disappointed look. "I didn't steal anything! I just printed them out and got you a copy-"
"That's still illegal," I interrupted, shaking my head.
Ella leaned back in her chair, shrugging. "Nothing is illegal if it's for a good cause."
I couldn't help but laugh at that. The Ella I first met seemed so different from the one sitting across from me now. I'd always wondered who the real her was, and now it was clear: this version, the one willing to bend the rules for something bigger.
"But," she sighed, her playful tone fading, "this still isn't enough to prove Mr. Jeon's innocence."
The weight of her words lingered between us, but I quickly broke the silence. "I know how to sort this," I said, making her shift her gaze toward me.
"What are you planning on doing?" she asked, her tone cautious.
"Get my hands on the document Ethan Seo has," I replied. Her eyes widened in shock.
"That's risky-" she began.
"It is," I agreed, "but only if I get caught." A smirk played on my lips. "Once I get those documents, it's over for everyone involved."
Ella stared at me, a flicker of uncertainty in her eyes. "Whatever you're planning, just be careful. Do you understand?"
I nodded firmly. "I will."
Satisfied, she stood up and gathered her things. "If you need anything, contact me. Also, lunch is almost over, and if anyone sees me here, I'll be in big trouble."
She was right. The documents Ella had handed me were supposed to have been confiscated by the board a long time ago. If anyone decided to snitch on her-or on me-it would be disastrous. I knew there were people within the company linked to all of this, and I might even know some of them.
As I watched her leave, a sudden, cold wave washed over me. It was as if a shadow had passed behind me, sending chills down my spine. Instinctively, I turned around, scanning the room.
