~Michael~
I don't talk to my parents very often, I think it's an unspoken agreement that unless either of us needs something, we pretend we don't know each other. They still hadn't met Willow, simply because I didn't feel like dealing with it. So safe to say I was surprised to see my mother standing at the front door with Evan and Liz at 7 in the morning. "Can I help you?" I yawned, leaning my head against the doorframe with barely opened eyes as I stared at her.
About ten minutes ago I was happily lying in bed, hoping to rest for at least a few more minutes before Willow woke up. Noah was already at work, most of the time he goes to work at around 6 so he can be done earlier in the evening.
But anyway, I only got to lay for maybe two minutes before I heard a knock at the door, repeatedly and loudly. And fine, I'll admit I was nervous about opening the door, scared about who might be behind it, which is childish, I know. Somehow managed to get the strength, and here we are.
"Your father is an asshole." My mother crossed her arms. A bag hung off her as she tapped her foot against the floor, creating a loud clack against the floor with her heels.
"And?" I looked down at Liz and Evan, they both looked exhausted. I smiled and led the two of them inside. Liz instantly grabbed Evan's arms and dragged him down the hallway, I knew that was probably the last I would see of them today, they would get lost around here somehow, for sure.
"I need to talk to you." My mother watched as they left. I focused my attention back on her, leading my head in my hand and pinching the bridge of my nose.
"Alright," I sighed. "Come in then."
She instantly lit up with a smile. I had rarely seen her smile like that around me, definitely not since I was a kid. I don't remember the last time she was actually grateful to see me. I felt guilty that I was enjoying it. But either way, I let her sit down on the couch in the living room. "I gotta go get Willow up, you can make tea if you want." I gestured to the kitchen as I left for Willow's room.
When I came back with Willow in my arms, my mother instantly smiled. "Oh my god.. Can I hold her?" She practically begged, I nodded and handed Willow over to her. "Hi there, love.." She whispered, lightly bouncing Willow up and down as she stared down at her. "She's so easygoing. You were not." She quietly laughed, gently playing with Willow's hair. "You used to cry for hours, like literally hours. I thought I was gonna go insane." She looked up at me. I kept a solemn face.
"Why are you here, mum?" I sat down in an armchair across from her. I knew she needed something, she wouldn't have come if she didn't.
She rubbed the back of her hand on her cheek, her makeup wiped off with it, revealing a black and purple bruised spot right across her cheek.
"Jesus— that's bad. What happened?" It wasn't anything I hadn't seen before, William has done shit like that to her before while they've been fighting, they basically beat the shit out of each other, like weekly. But this bruise was especially deep. "Come on, I'll get some Polysporn." I stood up and led her to the nearest bathroom, pretty much all the bathrooms are stocked with medical supplies.
She sat down on the bathtub edge and stared at the ground. I opened the cabinet and got the cream, "It's just a bruise, it shouldn't scar anyway, but just to make sure it heals well." I gave her the cream and she applied it onto her face, looking into the mirror.
"So.. What happened this time?" I leaned against the counter.
