"I still don't understand." I stared down at Michael with confusion, a beer in my hand that I gently sipped on as I leaned over the kitchen island, where he stood on the other side as he desperately tried to explain to me the plot of The Santa Clause. I've never watched it.
"God, okay. So, this guy, Scott, has this kid named Charlie. Charlie's mom is the man's ex wife, and they hate each other. Her new boyfriend sucks, his name is Neil, everyone in this movie hate Neil." He had a cup of tea in hand, he paused to take a sip. I pretended to comprehend this. I honestly just wanted to hear him talk so much. Something about the way his voice gets when he talks for a while is soothing.
He finished his sip and continued, catching me off guard by his first sentence.
"So on Christmas night Santa Clause dies on the main guy's roof, and he takes his coat and becomes Santa. And then his kid gets taken away from him and he has to like be Santa to get him back." He finishes and waits for my response.
"Okay, thanks for that." I chuckled, taking another drink of my bottle.
"LISTEN UP!" Posi walked in, holding a hat filled with paper, we all turned to look at her. Michael walked over to me and nuzzled his way under my arm to cuddle up against my chest.
"We are doing a secret Santa, everyone put their hands in the hat and pull out a name." Posi continued, I sighed and kissed the top of Michael's head.
"Do I have to?" I asked.
"Don't be a dick, c'mon." She smirked and waved the hat at me, I rolled my eyes and grabbed one. Michael followed after me, placing his in his pocket. One by one everyone grabbed their papers.
"How does this work?" Michael asked, grabbing my beer from my hand and taking a sip as if it was always his. I took it back from him after, knowing how little tolerance he has for even something as light as beer.
"You each have a person now, and you have to buy a present for that person within a budget of 20-30 dollars." Posi explained. "And obviously, don't tell anybody who you've got." She smiled, "Aye?" She tilted her head.
"Aye." We repeated back, knowing that's what she wanted to hear. She grinned and jumped up and down like a kid. She always seems to be extra jumpy and energetic around Christmas, like she's running on sugar the whole month.
"And you two." She next turned to Michael and I. "I'm stealing your mate for the afternoon to shop." She told me, barely giving me a chance to respond quickly.
"Uh- okay? Just be safe." I said, as she grabbed him by the arm to his surprise and dragged him down the hallway, he let out a small yelp as she pulled him.

"Fuck, it's cold." I shivered as Posi and I walked down the street, I had two sweaters on and I was still freezing.
"I gotta go to the cafe real quick." Posi said, throwing her purse over her shoulder as we reached the cafe, walking in. The smell of bread and coffee filled my senses in such a familiar way, I almost walked behind the counter and put my apron on.
"You ever gonna come back to work? Or are you a housewife now?" She snickered as she walked into the break room, I followed her, ignoring her annoying little comment with an eye roll.
"I dunno, maybe in the future, Willow's too young right now." I ran my fingers along the arm of the chair in the break room where I used to sit with Posi and talk for our whole lunch hour.
She walked into the boss's office where he was sitting at his desk, "Pay cheque." She held her hand out and whistled.
He looked behind her at me, where I stood awkwardly. "Nice to see you, Michael. How's your mate?" He gave me an unimpressed glare. Ohhh, I forgot Noah kicked the shit outta him. That was funny.
