~Elias~
"I don't even like coffee." I sighed, staring up at the overpriced menu in the small cafe downtown. I'd been dragged down here by Michael and Posi, along with Noah and Lily. It got me out of work though, I guess I wasn't allowed to complain.
"I miss our cafe." Posi said as she stood behind me, glancing over at Michael, who shrugged, focused on Willow standing next to him, holding her hand.
"It really is overpriced though." Noah chimed in from his spot next to his mate, eyes darting to the prices, exactly where mine were.
"How can a coffee possibly cost eight dollars?" He pinched the bridge of his nose. Michael grinned in a slight laugh.
"You think it's got gold in it?" He stood up on his toes to get his face near Noah's, fingers interlocking with his as he leaned up and gently pecked him on the lips.
"Probably from Germany, or Switzerland, or something." Lily suddenly spoke, I flinched, I had kind of forgotten she was here.
"Wouldn't they advertise that?" Posi looked up at her.
"No shit." I flattened my eyes, trying to find where we were supposed to order.
Eventually, my eyes fixed on a short woman dressed in a black cafe uniform standing at the counter.
I walked up to her instantly, kind of disorienting the others behind me as I stepped to the counter.
She was lost in a world I couldn't see, staring at the counter top. Her hair was dirty blonde, curled perfectly down her back to her waist.
I meant to speak, I really did, but I couldn't find words.
She soon noticed me, probably scared to death as I internally screamed at myself for being so awkward.
She glanced up, revealing her greyish blue eyes and freckled, round face. Her bangs were pushed back with a headband, stray curls falling into her face.
She seemed unbothered by my presence, lips curling into a polite smile.
"Ello, monsiour!" She caught me off guard with her heavy, French voice that made we wonder if I had just accidentally stumbled into a peasant's bakery.
I tried to keep my mouth closed, light seemed to shine on her like she was a gift from a distant star.
"Monsiour?—" She tried again, head turning with her confusion. Suddenly her eyes lit up as if to illustrate a thought.
"Oh- meester?" She smiled, trying the English word.
"Hey—" Michael suddenly appeared next to me and clapped, snapping me out of whatever trance I was put under to save me from my own embarrassment.
I scrunched my face and blinked.
"What can I get for you?" Her bright face continued after seeing I was once again back to reality. The words she spoke sounded a bit rehearsed, like a line she had copied from TV.
"Just- a coffee, black." I stumbled, instantly backing away after she nodded, needing to get the experience over with. I was about to jump through the window.
"You are pregnant, no?" I heard her say to Michael, he nodded. "'Ze English, you have coffee with 'ze baby?" She crooked an eyebrow; not necessarily with judgement, more confusion.
He shook his head, "No, just a cookie for her." His hand gestured over to Willow, who was once by his side, but had at one point travelled over to Noah. Michael stared blankly at the pair, watching as Noah held a giggling Willow upside down.
"Oh! Oui, yes, okay." The woman clicked her tongue as she entered the two items into the screen in front of her.
She glanced over to Posi and Lily, awaiting their order.
The slight breeze from an open window blew through her hair, caught in the blonde curls rested on her back as she listened to the order, typing in each of the drinks they asked for.
After she finished, I instantly swooped in to the counter again, pulling my wallet out before anyone else hand a chance.
