Handing my child to me Lotus stood near my bed. My body was weak and tired from cold sweating. I could barely hold the glass of water LuTen gave me moments ago but something about having my own child in my very hands forced me to gather strength. The baby was quiet, eyes closed sleeping peacefully. Porcelain skin and dark straight hair. There was no hint of me but I could see every feature of Zuko.
"Oh, my spirits" I whispered lowly. My cheeks couldn't help but smile wide as I gazed at my baby's face.
"What is her name going to be?" Lotus asked smiling warmly kneeling down.
"Her?!?" I couldn't believe it was a little girl! "I ... I... I don't know." I admitted. "I just assumed it would be a boy. I hadn't thought of the possibility of a girl." I couldn't stop smiling as my eyes continued to glaze upon my daughter.
"You just gave birth. You don't have to choose right now." Lotus reminded me.
Looking down Lotus's eyes became saddened. "What's wrong?" I asked as I happened to catch the sudden mood change in her.
"The physician will be in tomorrow. To look at your shoulder."
Looking around the room I just then noticed it was only the three of us. "Lotus, where is LuTen?"
"He's out looking for evidence of who might have harmed you." Lotus simply said. Studying her body language I realized it was something she wasn't telling me.
"Who do you think did it?" I boldly asked.
"LuTen is the former crown prince and a member of the royal family. His head would hold more of a ransom than yours ever could ever. The attacker was skilled in using a single arrow. It was intentional." Lotus admitted her fears.
"wa... wa...wahhhh" Holding my baby closer she felt the warmest of my skin soothing her newly developed vocal cords. I could feel the strain in my shoulder holding my baby so close to my body.
"You're safe Katara," Lotus said gently rubbing my back. "Why don't you give me the baby so you can get some rest? I'll watch after her in the nursery."
Holding her hand out for my child I simply looked at her unmoving. "Lotus.. can you help me with something?"
"Sure," Lotus answered retracting her hands for my baby.
"I want to send a letter to Zuko."
