Katara
9 pm
My heart soared the moment I left the common bathroom in the servant wing. Tonight was the night—I would finally escape this palace. I wore a simple red halter top paired with loose black jeggings that stopped halfway down my calves. The fabric hung casually on my hips, revealing the gentle contour of my stomach. Half of my hair was tied up, the rest cascading over my shoulders in soft waves.
Now, in Sui's cozy room, I sat cross-legged on the floor, turning the pages of my book. Excitement radiated through me—I could barely contain the joy of seeing my village in just a few short weeks. Clutching my bag closer, I let myself imagine the moment I would finally leave this place behind, my chest swelling with anticipation and freedom.
*creek*
Turning my head towards the door, Sui stepped inside, her dirty clothes clutched in her hands. Her hair was dripping wet and out of her usual tie hairstyle.
"Sui!" I gushed happily.
"You wouldn't guess what happened today. LuTen got me this book. You wouldn't believe it! It's in my village-"
"Did you say LuTen!" Sui's tone wasn't happy nor was the look in her eyes. All she heard Katara say was LuTen every other word was blocked out. "Katara you can't be serious! Don't you remember how the Fire Lord reacted the last time LuTen was only near you!?"
"Yes. I remembered. I remember telling myself what I would do at the end of that night. And now, I can finally make it happen... besides he has Mai" I reminded her bitterly.
"Regardless of his reaction, I'll be leaving this palace. Finally."
"Wait what? What exactly do you mean!?"
"Tonight..er well in the morning. I found a ship leaving for the Earth kingdom. Once on land, I'll be able to blend in and eventually reach the South Pole! Sui! Aren't you happy for me?"
sure I'll miss Zuko..er in a strange sense I mean... but I'll finally be gone. That's what I've wanted for so long..right?
Not appearing happy for Katara, Sui stood there blinking rapidly unable to understand what Katara was thinking.
"You have no money? Even if you miraculously get on the ship and leave the capital how are you going to get there? The South Pole isn't exactly catch a Phoenix on the right side of Ba-Sing-Se." Sui savaatch
"I have friends in the earth kingdom. I'll find a way" I snapped towards her. My mind thought of Haru and the small village he was from. Not to mention Toph, the Kyoshi warriors perhaps even King Bumi if he was still alive.
I'm sure I'll be able to find someone...
anyone... My heart pled.
"I'll have to get my mother's necklace first... I will not leave and the only item I have of her remaining would stay in these walls."
"Now I know you're joking!" Sui cautioned out loud, slamming her hand into her forehead. "Isn't it in the Fire Lord study? Katara that's a death sentence."
"Why should it be?!" I yelled defending my plan. "I'm not planning on stealing from him! ...I just want what's mine."
"Ka-" *BANG*
Suddenly both Sui and I turned to the side, looking towards the door that had just flown open with no warning.
In a husky low deep voice, a bulky tan guard pointed at me. His arm resembles the thickness of a mature tree and his finger of a tight-packed sausage. "You. women. The Fire Lord demands to see you."
Looking at Sui, I could feel how nervous she was for me. No one had ever dared open her door like that before. Which only bought into her fear of how furious the Fire Lord must be feeling.
Standing up I grabbed my book shoving it into the bag I had placed beside me earlier in the evening. Next to the book inside my bag was a dark neural outfit I could wear to disguise myself once I make it out of this palace.
