As soon as they stepped inside the outhouse, the door thudding behind them, Adair let go of Mishti's trembling hand. The warmth that had comforted her disappeared in an instant.
His voice was low but soft.
"Go to the room."
Mishti looked at him—confused, breathless, her limbs still unsteady. Her eyes flicked from his face to the man whose collar Adair was still gripping.
That man... the one who called himself Ashok Patel.
Something in the way Adair stood, the way his grip had not loosened for even a second—it scared her.
She gulped, backed away slowly, and then—
Ran.
She ran to the bedroom like her legs finally obeyed the panic she was holding in. The door slammed shut behind her with a finality that echoed in the silent house.
Adair didn't blink.
In one swift move, he shoved the man down to the floor. Hard.
The man grunted, gasping, his back hitting the tiles.
Adair planted his boot on his chest, pressing him down—not enough to break bone, but just enough to remind him he could.
His voice came out quiet. Dangerous. A whisper only devils knew.
"Who the hell are you?"
"And where is Ashok Patel?"
The man froze. For a brief second, his eyes betrayed him. A flicker of fear—like a boy caught stealing—but it vanished too quickly.
'How did he find out?' he thought, his mind racing. 'Was it the way I touched her? Did I slip up? But Ashok... Ashok would've done the same... right?'
But the fear left as soon as it came. He wiped his expression clean and smirked, almost too casually.
"Apne baap se aise baat karte hain?" (Is this how you speak to your father?)
Adair's eyes darkened. He didn't answer with words. He simply took out his phone and dialed.
"Mayank. Come to my house. Use the back gate."
He hung up before Mayank could respond.
Then bent slightly, pressing his boot down just a little harder.
"You're not going to have a good time from today onwards."
