Tum aisi raaton ko apna paoge kya?
Aksar khayalo se bechain ho jata hoon
Haath tham kar gale laga paoge Kya?

The room was quiet except for the distant ticking of the clock. The bedside lamp cast a soft yellow glow across the room. Adair stood by the table, fingers curling around the cool metal of his car key.

Outside, through the half-open curtain, he could see Mishti standing near the car, arms folded, waiting.

He tapped Raghav's contact and brought the phone to his ear.

The screen of his phone glowed beside Raghav's pillow. Groggy-eyed, he squinted at the name on the screen—"Boss". He reached for it with a sleepy grunt.

"Hello... boss..." he mumbled, yawning so wide he could barely finish the word. "What's the emergency?"

He didn't bother with a greeting.

"Mishti wants to meet Riya."
Silence. Then the rustling of sheets. Raghav's sleep vanished like a popped bubble.

"Wait. What? She said that?"
His voice had gone full alert now. "Did something happen? You two made up?"

Adair let out a faint exhale. He leaned on the table slightly, looking out the window at the night sky.

"You talk more than an auntie at a wedding. Just come to Riya's place. We're heading there now. If those two friends of yours start crying or something, I don't want to be the only guy standing there awkwardly."
There was a pause.

"...You serious?" Raghav asked, quieter now.

"I don't have time to joke, Raghav."
Raghav cleared his throat, voice picking up some energy.

"Alright. Should I wear something proper? I mean, it's my first visit to my future in-laws' place."

Adair blinked.

"We're not going there for your rishta."
"But still—pehli baar jaa raha hoon, boss! (It's my first time going there, boss!) I should look presentable, right?"

Adair pinched the bridge of his nose, half-tired, half-done.

"Wear a garbage bag if you want. Just don't be late."
"Fifteen minutes max!" Raghav said, already getting out of bed.

Adair ended the call and turned around—

The moment he stepped out, he saw Ayaan running toward him, holding the ends of his t-shirt like it was a cape.

"Dada! Mummaa saying to hurry up!"
Adair crouched slightly and caught the boy's shoulder.

"Ready to go see Pari?" he asked, gently brushing Ayaan's hair back.
Ayaan nodded hard, his eyes sparkling. "Yesss!"
