A knock echoed in the quiet room.
The door creaked open, revealing Riya — breathless, her chest rising and falling as if she'd sprinted all the way up.
Tina raised a brow, casually munching on an apple, lounging on the bed like she had no care in the world.
"Did you come running just to see me? Are you that desperate?" she smirked, half-laughing.
Riya didn't answer. She walked straight to the table, grabbed the glass of water, and downed half of it in one go before dropping into the chair with a thud, leaning back as if to stop her heart from racing.
Tina watched her, curiosity flickering in her eyes. "What's the matter?"
Riya didn't waste time. Her voice was sharp. "Do you have a twin?"
Tina froze.
Just for a second.
But it was enough.
Her eyes shifted, and she looked away. "No."
"Don't lie to me, Tina," Riya snapped, her tone no longer casual.
"I said no, so it's no!" Tina raised her voice this time, defensively.
Riya leaned forward, anger flaring now. "Just because I'm being polite doesn't mean you're living in a free hotel. And don't think I'll go easy on you because you're pregnant."
"I said stop saying that! I don't want to hear it!" Tina yelled, throwing the apple aside.
Riya didn't flinch. "Who is Tia?"
Silence.
Tina's fingers curled into the sheets.
"I'll tell the Patel family everything," Riya warned, her eyes fixed on her.
"No... no, don't..." Tina's voice trembled. "Tia was my sister."
"You never told me you had a twin," Riya said, hurt and disbelief laced in her voice.
"Because she isn't my sister anymore," Tina snapped. "She was—once. But I don't belong to that family now. They never loved me. They only ever loved Mishti. Even my own sister adored her—her! Why?! She's the reason everyone kept walking away from me!" Her voice cracked as she shouted, tears welling in her eyes.
Riya didn't know what to say. A part of her wanted to scream back. Another part just felt... pity.
So she said it softly, "Your sister is here."
Tina went quiet.
Then, slowly, she looked up. "Why? Does she know about me and Raj's marriage?"
