"Even most surprises are unwanted, sometimes those are the best kind"
Samantha sighed thinking that this week could not get worse as she walked from the courthouse in her once hometown to the curb on the street where a food truck stood.
Anxious to get to her kids Samantha took out her phone and looked at the time before going into the cab app and ordering one for her, while getting herself a water and paying for it. Ashley I longtime friend and confidant lived here in this place known as East London and had gladly taken her kids and herself in once she rocked up on her doorstep two days ago.
Thankfully phoning the lawyer was a good idea when Samantha did otherwise him and her adoptive mother would let her stay out of the fickle court battle but here, she was in the dead of winter standing in front, with a frown on her face, she dared not smile yet, not until she was safely behind doors with the person she trusted in this town.
The sound of a hoot caught her attention looking at the app to make sure that the number plate was the same as the car now in front of her before moving forward and opening the door.
Samantha greeted the driver as she stealthily made sure that the child lock to the passenger door was not active, before getting into the car and placed her seat belt on before going phoning her mother and only getting voicemail.
Germany, the one place her adoptive mother did not want her not with everything going on but she did not want to be in South Africa anymore either, this place had a way of sucking everything away from a person with false promises in every kind with everyone just watching out for themselves but Germany did not look appealing either not with her uncle raging in the background about everything and her adoptive mother explaining why her brother was so upset.
Finally reaching the house Samantha thanked the driver before getting out and giving him a tip before walking up to the small gate and being greeted by her kids could she finally smile as the tears escaped her eyes.
Samantha was not a crier, only time when she ever cried was when she was angry or a couple of months ago when her own mother Caitlyn threw her out with nothing but today she could not help the tears escaping as she kissed her kids faces and held them tight, thanks to Stan Yips and his father's friend Samantha no longer had to worry about Caitlyn or Richard or Henry, her kids were hers and this time no one could dispute it, Samantha could go anywhere without their fathers stopping them.
Ashley "You're crying, you never cry—what happened?"
"I won" said Samantha as she got up and started laughing "I won without saying a word"
Just then Samantha's phone rang, and she saw that it was her adoptive mother not waiting a second longer standing outside in the biting cold she sobered enough to answer but then truly started crying again that Ashley took her and the kids in and sat them down as she went into the kitchen to place a kettle on before sitting down and listening to what transpired.
Caitlyn sought out both Richard, Charls father and Henry, Charmaine's father along with the four years of bills that Samantha had stayed with her, Charls medical reports were also made public to the court as all three tried to make as though Samantha was an unfit mother but Hank Hills Stan Yips father's friend after hearing everything turned to her, and winked his graying yellow beard and moustache bristled in what Samantha thought was contempt but to her surprise was rather the opposite as he not only unraveled but destroyed everything they held against her with actual evidence even where the children was now in the hands of not only a family friend but also someone that worked with special kids such as hers.
The hearing did not even last as long as Samantha had hoped her fears ebbed away as she explained that the tightness in her chest eased but a knot was formed a knot of emotion as the judge ordered them no contact as well as a restraining order but what had Samantha almost in tears in court as she was now as she explained was that she was free, Samantha had her own life now without them, she could go anywhere in the world and no one would or could stop her.
