Merlin's POV
I watched up from my book, as Rimuru stood near the center of the room, her back turned slightly toward me, though I could tell she was contemplating something. Ever since we met, she had never really left the tower. She was always here, lurking around the corners, avoiding the staff who were trying to figure her out, or simply lounging in the shadows, casually pulling off feats of magic that would baffle anyone else. Her presence had become a constant, almost like the tower itself.
But today, something was different.
For the first time, she was leaving, and the weight of that realization hit me harder than I expected.
She paused for a moment, as if considering something, before turning back to me. Her eyes gleamed with a familiar mischievous glint, but there was also something more in her gaze—something thoughtful, even serious. I had never seen her like this before.
"You know, Merlin," Rimuru started, her voice calm but carrying an undercurrent of excitement, "I wasn't planning on dragging you into this. But then I thought... this is too big for you to miss."
I raised an eyebrow, crossing my arms. "And what exactly is 'this'?"
She smirked, stepping toward me with that casual confidence that had become her signature. "How would you like to get in on the most impressive scheme of the century? I'm talking about getting a blessing from both the Demon King and the Supreme Deity."
I blinked, momentarily caught off guard. I had come to expect a lot of wild ideas from Rimuru, but this? This was beyond anything I had anticipated. "Both deities? You're not serious."
"Oh, I'm very serious," Rimuru replied, her grin widening. "This is going to be bigger than anything either of us has ever done. Once it's in motion, there's no going back."
Her words hung in the air, and I found myself instinctively analyzing the possibilities. Getting a blessing from either the Demon King or the Supreme Deity was near impossible, but both? That wasn't just reckless—it was insanity. And yet, the way Rimuru was looking at me, the certainty in her voice, made it seem as though she had already thought through every angle.
"You're planning to manipulate both of them," I said, narrowing my eyes as I began to understand. "You want them to think they need me."
Rimuru's smile deepened, her eyes gleaming with approval. "Exactly. We won't be asking them for anything. They're going to believe that having you on their side is the only way forward. Once they think that, the blessings will come without them even realizing what's really happening."
I tilted my head, still skeptical but undeniably intrigued. "And how do you plan on getting the Demon King and the Supreme Deity to play along?"
Rimuru stepped closer, her voice dropping slightly. "The Demon King is already watching you. He just doesn't know it yet. I had an audience with him not too long ago."
That caught me off guard. "An audience with the Demon King? And you're just telling me this now?"
She shrugged casually. "It wasn't relevant until now. He offered me a place in the Ten Commandments, thought I'd make a useful addition to his ranks."
I stared at her, astonished by the casual way she said it. "And you refused."
"Of course," she said with a wave of her hand. "I'm not interested in following anyone's orders. But that meeting got the Demon King's attention, and it planted the seeds for what's about to happen next. Zeldris has already started whispering in his ear, and soon, the Demon King will be keeping a close eye on you."
I couldn't help but shake my head, a small smile forming on my lips despite my surprise. Rimuru was always one step ahead, setting things in motion before anyone else even knew there was a game to play. "And the Supreme Deity? I assume she's not going to just fall into place."
