Ludociel's POV
Even as she left the chamber, walking away with that unreadable poise and soft, calculated grace, my thoughts remained rooted to the center of the hall—where she had stood, where she had spoken, where she had defied everything I understood about divine order.
She should not exist like this.
That aura. That presence. That echo of something older than us, something that reminded even Mael of the time before we were forged by light and divine law.
And yet... the Necklace of Fate responded to her.
No, more than that—it had chosen her.
I stared at the place where the sacred gem had pulsed faintly against her chest, its glow unmistakable, undeniable. The artifact forged by divine will, bound to the highest among our kind, would never accept a pretender.
It did not tolerate lies. It did not permit contradiction. It knew.
And still, it embraced her.
Even if she hadn't been born like this—even if her origins were an accident, an anomaly, a side effect of chaotic magic as she claimed—her very existence was a problem.
An unknown with power, with a presence that disrupted the careful structures we maintained.
But what I thought didn't matter.
Not anymore.
Because our own relic, our sacred treasure, had accepted her. And in doing so, the Necklace of Fate had spoken something louder than any of us could:
That judgment of her was not ours to make.
She wasn't bound by our laws because our laws had just bent to her presence.
That left only one authority above ours. One whose word could not be defied.
"The Supreme Deity will decide," I said aloud, though no one was there to hear me now. "Not us."
Whether Rimuru was a threat, an ally, or something far more dangerous... the fate of that decision lay with Her.
And I hated that.
Because deep in my chest, behind all my logic and doctrine and centuries of order...
...I wasn't sure the Supreme Deity would say no to her.
Mael's POV
Even after she left the Council Hall, my thoughts lingered on her.
Rimuru.
There was still something about her I couldn't quite define. Something not captured in divine light or logic. Not just the power she held or the knowledge stored in that necklace—but the way she moved through our realm like she belonged here... and didn't, all at once.
I found myself walking the upper corridors, overlooking the crystalline gardens where Rimuru stood now, quietly examining the celestial bloom trees as if she hadn't just upturned a council chamber with a few truths and a lot of restraint.
I shouldn't have followed her.
I wasn't assigned. I wasn't commanded.
I simply... wanted to understand her.
Before I realized it, I was beside her.
"I'll be your guardian," I said, voice calm, and not at all tentative.
Rimuru looked up from the glowing petal in her hand, blinking slowly. "My what?"
I allowed myself the faintest smile. "While you're in the Goddess Realm. Someone has to ensure your path remains peaceful—for everyone's sake."
