Amaira's pov
As I sat in my cabin the next day, thoughts of the dinner from that night flooded my mind.
The memories of our brief encounter replayed like a fleeting moment, each interaction leaving a delicate imprint on my thoughts.
Recalling the exchanged pleasantries, the polite conversations, and the shared smiles. The ambiance of the night, the unfamiliar yet friendly face, and the casual chatter we had engaged in lingered in my mind.
The chain of my thoughts were broken by the call which I was getting from mt mother.
"Hello, dear," my mother's voice rang through the phone.
"You need to come home soon. The Malhotras are hosting a party tonight, and we've been invited to join them."
With a swift nod of agreement, I assured my mother that I would make my way home promptly.
As I ended the call, visions of the upcoming party swirled in my mind, each detail adding to the allure of the event.
As soon as I cutted the call I dialled my bestfriend number.
"Hey, guess what?" I exclaimed as my best friend picked up the phone.
"I just got invited to the Malhotras' party tonight. I just met him some time ago and it feels like we both know each other since so long."
Happiness laced my voice as I shared the news with my friend.
"Wow, that sounds incredible. Finally you are moving on I guess and I am really happy for you. Now be the girl you were back 2 years ago" my best friend exclaimed, her voice filled with excitement.
"I want you to be there with me so pack your things and come to my place we both will go together" I exclaimed and she agreed after some time.
"Let's make the most of it" she said and hang up the call.
I was nervous. So nervous as I just met him and it feels like I know him since I don't know when.
He is a nice guy with a perfect smile but my past what about that? It's still there in my mind and haunts me.
I still get nightmares. Brushing off my thoughts I packed ny stuff and went to my home.
Author's pov
Amaira stood in front of the mirror, adjusting the delicate earrings that dangled from her ears.
The light in her bedroom caught the shimmer of her emerald green dress, accentuating the elegance that she carried effortlessly.
Her best friend, Meera, sat on the bed, scrolling through her phone, occasionally glancing up to offer her approval.
"You look stunning, Amaira," Meera said, smiling. "This dress is perfect for you."
Amaira smiled faintly, her mind elsewhere. Tonight was just another social obligation, and she wasn't in the mood for the festivities.
"Amaira, beta, are you ready?" her mother called from downstairs.
"We need to leave for the Malhotra mansion soon."
Amaira took a deep breath, giving herself one last look in the mirror.
"Coming, Mom!" she replied, grabbing her clutch and making her way out of the room.
As they arrived at the Malhotra mansion, the grand gates opened to reveal the sprawling estate, bathed in warm, golden lights.
The garden was filled with guests, and the sound of laughter and clinking glasses filled the air. Amaira stepped out of the car with Meera by her side, the two of them greeted warmly by the Malhotra family.
Amaira, my dear, it's so good to see you!" Mrs. Malhotra exclaimed, pulling her into a warm hug.
"You're looking beautiful as always."
"Thank you, Aunty," Amaira replied, forcing a polite smile.
The two friends made their way to the refreshment counter, where Meera handed Amaira a glass of juice.
"I'll be right back," Meera said, her phone buzzing in her hand.
"I just need to take this call."
"Okay," Amaira nodded, watching as Meera walked away, leaving her alone at the counter.
Amaira took a sip of her drink, her eyes wandering through the crowd, searching for a familiar face.
She felt a presence behind her, and before she could turn around, a voice whispered in her ear, "Already missing me?"
Startled, Amaira turned around quickly, only to find herself face-to-face with Rudransh.
his signature smirk playing on his lips. He was close—too close—and the proximity made her heart race.
"I... I wasn't missing you," she managed to say, her voice wavering slightly.
Rudransh’s eyes sparkled with mischief as he leaned in closer, his breath warm against her ear.
"But your eyes are telling me something different."
Amaira blushed, the heat rising to her cheeks as she quickly looked away. She wasn’t sure how to respond.
The intensity of his gaze made her feel vulnerable, something she wasn’t used to anymore.
"How have you been?" Rudransh asked, his tone softer now, more genuine.
He stepped back slightly, giving her space but still maintaining that magnetic pull.
"Good," Amaira replied, regaining some composure. "Just busy with work."
"Work... always the perfect excuse." He chuckled, his eyes still fixed on hers.
"But you should take time to enjoy yourself too, Amaira. Life’s too short to be spent in cold hospital rooms."
She nodded, unsure of what to say next. There was something about Rudransh that unnerved her, yet intrigued her at the same time.
Before she could continue the conversation, she remembered why she had been looking around earlier.
"Excuse me for a moment," Amaira said, needing a break from the intensity of the exchange.
"I need to use the washroom."
"Of course," Rudransh replied, stepping aside. "I'll be here when you get back."
Amaira gave him a small smile and quickly made her way through the crowd, her heart still pounding from the unexpected encounter.
She entered the washroom, splashing some cool water on her face in an attempt to calm down. Staring at her reflection, she tried to make sense of the emotions swirling inside her.
He was different from anyone she had ever met. There was a confidence in him, an allure that drew her in despite her best efforts to stay distant.
But she couldn’t let herself get too close—not again. Not after what happened last time.
