6:00PM
Wednesday's POVThe dress is more comfortable than I anticipated. It's short, yes, much shorter than anything I would ever purchase for myself, and the fit is something I am not used to. That being said, I am not minding my outfit. Besides the dress, my hair is in my usual braids, and I'm reluctantly wearing the heels Enid bought. I swear, if Enid hadn't spent her own money on these shoes, they would be six logs deep in a bonfire. However, I'll make do. She's excited, and I'm tolerant with wiggle room.
Nevertheless, we're here on time, and I won't lie, that baffles me considering the fact we left Nevermore at 5:48PM. Perhaps the Uber driver could sense we were on a time crunch, resulting in him stepping on the gas.
As I reach my hand over to my door to exit the uber, Enid stops me. I pull my hand away and watch as she exits her side and walks over to mine, opening the car door for me from the sidewalk. She holds her hand out with an inviting smile on her face, and I instinctively smirk at the gesture, taking her hand in mine as I exit the car.
"How chivalrous." I say.
"Only the best for my girl." She responds, and my stomach feels as though it flips at the nickname.
We begin to walk down the sidewalk, and I notice that we're still holding hands, not yet having separated them. Honestly, I had not realized this until now. Holding her hand feels so natural, like I've done it before a million different times. Part of me wonders if she'll pull her hand away, nervous that someone might see us. As far as I can tell, there is nobody on this side-street, and I'm assuming we won't have to walk far. It's warm out tonight, and the cold breeze is the ideal amount of chilly and relaxing for the weather. The thought as to why Enid didn't give the direct address crosses my mind, but that's a question for when we get there. Regardless, we walk hand in hand for a couple minutes before reaching our destination.
Hm.
A black door, no signs, no windows, a barely any visible sign of life. Just a plain black door placed a few feet into an old brick wall, nudged in between two lively and active gift shops.
I'm intrigued.
Enid walks up to the door confidently, almost like she's been here before, leading me even more curious as to what lies behind the strange entrance. I follow her up, and she knocks on the door.
Knock knock
Then she pauses, resuming a second later.
Knock
Again, she pauses. However, this time she goes much faster, remaining at the same volume and intensity as the others.
Knock knock knock knock knock
There must be a reason behind this absurd pattern. Not even a second after she knocks, a small hidden door the size of a coaster opens on the left side of the brick wall, revealing a tiny camera behind it. Impressive that someone took the time to make a secret door that small, but that's irrelevant.
Enid turns back to me and smirks, then after she looks back to the camera. She waves her hand at it while extending her claws in the process, making them visible but not too obvious. By itself, the small hidden door slams shut, and me and Enid both hear the doorknob twist. I'm confused, but deeply interested, so when Enid opens the door for me motioning with her hand that I enter first, I have no choice but to walk in. Besides, Enid wouldn't try to kill me, and by the slight slight chance that she would...I can assure you she would be much more creative.
I walk through the doorway, and I'm immediately met with a long dark hallway. The lights are dimmed low, and the wallpaper is black, with small floral designs covering the background. There's carpet on the floor, and I can't be too sure due to the lack of light, but it appears to be purple, just like the Nevermore colors. Enid shuts the door behind us before making her way to my right side. We take a few steps down the hallway when we hear the front door click shut, not only locking itself, but locking us in. I give Enid a questionable look, but she glances at me with a smile on her face, urging me to continue down the hallway.
