"Do you want me to address you as 'your majesty' or something?" I asked the vampire king, as I entered the library and spotted him standing by a canvas held by a stand, which was as tall as him. Since he is of a royal blood, I think it would be the best of me to express some respect towards him.
"That would be actually prefered, yes," he confirmed with a nod and taking a brush and palette he picked one of the colours by the brush and created a gentle lines across the canvas.
"Alright.. uh, what do you want me to do, your majesty?" I held my hands together and nervously swung from my toes to heels and back, the shoes still feeling a little strange. He paused his artistic masterpiece and turned his head to look at me over his shoulder while narrowing his eyes. Was he judging me?
"Well, feel free to explore the library. When you find a book of your liking, you may borrow it, but then put it back to its place. I keep them organized by their titles and genres," he replied while returning to his canvas and painting on it, as he mixed some colours together. I softly sighed and complied to what he told me to do, even though, I haven't read a book for so many years, so I wasn't really in mood to just sit around and keep my nose buried in the book pages."Do I need to be here?" I asked him with a pout while standing by one of the bookshelves and gently running my index finger tip across the fine wood of it.
"I won't allow you to wander around however you want, Sonic. You are my guest and as a guest you have to follow my rules," he replied firmly and I released another sigh.
"Fine," I uttered quietly and out of boredom walked around the bookshelves while forcing myself to read the various titles of the books. Most of the titles sounded like fantasy or sci-fi, which made me believe, that the vampire has a very vivid imagination, especially if some of these books are written by him.
"Did you write any of these books?" I asked curiously and heard him humming some melody for himself while he painted the art.
"Hm? Oh, no, these are the books I collected from all around the world," he answered my question and then continued the quiet humming. The melody sounded calming and it helped me relax, as I now more voluntarily ran my eyes across all the titles and tried to find one, that would catch my attention.
"Wait- all around the world? Were you in every corner of it?" I paused, once I realised that fact about him. I heard him stop humming and laugh a little.
"I am an immortal, fast moving vampire, a long-living as well, of course I travelled all across the globe and discovered its wonders. Books are my passion and I really love to collect the rarest pieces, which you can see in all these bookshelves," he sounded so happy while talking about his said passion."Well, I am sorry, your majesty, but I sadly don't share the same passion with you," I replied honestly and tilted my head at one book, that was strangely not titled. Of all the various titles, none interested me like this untitled book.
"We all have our own passion, so you do not need to apologise, Sonic. But I suggest you to at least give it a try," I heard his words, but they faded away, as my full attention now laid on the untitled piece I held in my hands. The cover was black with letters carved into it and the crimson underlay helped the letters stand out.Dance
Sing
LiveThose were the words carved to the cover. Interesting. This 'title' was unlike any other and a thin string of red rubber keeping it closed made it look more like some sort of diary, than just a fantasy book. I could be wrong, but what if... I carefully peeked at the vampire focused on his art before sitting down by the shelf and leaning against the side of it with my back I gently pulled off the rubber while nervously biting my lower lip with my small, yet really sharp fangs.
"Did you find anything?" I heard his voice suddenly speak up, which made me flinch and hug the book close to my chest in order to hide it, if he was to check up on me.
"Yup!" I nearly squeaked due to how nervous I was, as if I was doing something wrong. But he told me to take a look around, so I should be allowed to read any of these books, the one I held included, right? Then, why did I have this strange feeling of doing something wrong in my chest?
"Which title?" I heard him ask and he probably put the palette down according to the soft noise of the item meeting the small table by his side echoing through the silent library. Shortly after that, I could hear some rustling noise and he probably took something out and shoved it to his mouth, as it quietly chattered against his teeth. I slightly panicked deep down and felt sweat forming on my forehead. I had to tell him some title, quick! I frantically looked around and read the first title my eyes landed on.
"Dance in the rain."
