The next rainy morning I woke up almost at the lunch hour due to the sickness making me feel so tired. The advantage of it was, that I at least got my well deserved proper sleep.
"Lookie who finally woke up~" upon a sudden female voice speaking up next to me I yelped and quickly sat up while shooting my glance at the voice's owner, Rouge of course. She was sitting on the chair, which she probably moved closer to the bed and... watched me sleep?
"R-Rouge! What are you doing here?" I asked her hastily in shocked fashion, receiving just a small giggle from her in response.
"My king gave me an order to check up on you, as he went to sleep just a few minutes ago," she gave me an answer and I sighed in relief. She was here only for a while. I descended back onto the pillow and stared at the plain wooden ceiling. It was still majestic despite the simplicity.
"Okay then. I feel better, if that's what you would like to know," I replied and looked at her again. She stood up and placed her hand on my forehead for a moment before subtly nodding and removing her hand.
"Your fever is gone, good sign. Now come on, I made some breakfast for you," she gestured me to follow her, so I carefully sat up and once my body got a perfect balance, I got up, put the shoes on my feet and followed her to the kitchen downstairs."How are you doing this, Rouge?" I asked her a bit unclear of what I meant exactly. Whoopsies, hehe.
"Hmmm? Doing what?" she questioned and as we entered the kitchen, we both instantly sat down by the table.
"This life of yours. You turn to a statue every night, aren't you always nervous, when the time is coming?" I elaborated and started carefully eating the said breakfast. Or in this case rather brunch. A butter croissant with a fruit tea. Pretty delicious, must I admit.
"Oh, no, I am not nervous about it. In the beginning I was fairly shocked, even slightly depressed due to the curse, but over time I got used to it. Besides, Shadow is taking good care of me, so I do not need to be worried," she gave me a calm answer and here it was, her using Terios' nickname, which was truly fitting someone so mysterious like the vampire. He could be literally the shadow of the night.
"That's also true," I replied shortly and kept eating until my plate and mug were empty. Afterwards, she got up and taking both our dishes she went to wash them clean in the sink and put them to their spots.
"Mhm. Now come on, we've got work to do," she gestured me to follow her, so I wordlessly got up and followed her through the corridors to a part of the mansion, which I haven't seen yet. That part seemed to be the left wing and it looked... cracked, to say the least.
"Did something happen here?" I asked carefully while looking up at the partially damaged ceiling and cracks in the walls.
"You see, some things are better to be kept in the past. I brought you here only for help. We need to repair these walls and the door as well," Rouge replied quietly while pointing out the said walls and door. The door was almost fallen out of the hinges."And I guess also clean it up, huh?" I stated in slight disgust, when I saw the dirty and dusty furniture along with the wooden floor. Man, it looked like nobody has been here for centuries!
"Of course! Let's do this," the bat replied and shoved a mop to my hand while placing a bucket filled with water next to my feet.
"You'll do the cleaning, I can fly, so I can get to all those high places and repair the walls along with some repainting job," she explained, whilst I gripped the mop with a bit unamused expression on my face. I was disappointed to work here only as a cleaner.
"But that's not fair!" I complained and pouted.
"Nah, nah, do your job, Sonic. Else I will tell my king about your little crime you did back there~" she smirked at me and ran her index finger across my chin, which made me feel nervous and I slightly gulped.
"W-What are you talking about?" I barely whispered the question, as I froze.
"Dance, sing, live... rings any bell~?" Rouge replied mysteriously while smirking even deeper and I now realised, what she means. The diary.
"Thought so~ come on, we've got a few hours until I turn into that statue again," she flew up and started repairing the ceiling first. I sighed and looking down at the bucket I noticed a big rag hanging over the edge of it, most likely for cleaning the tables and chairs. I carefully leaned the mop against the wall before grabbing the rag and dipping it in the water I spun it dry afterwards, so I wouldn't drip too much water all around.
