I sat down on the comfortable big bed in the guest room while wielding the paper with the questions written on it in my shaky hand. Yup, I was a nervous wreck right now and for a moment regretted my decision. I still had the option to just let it be and apologise to the vampire, but his visibly curious expression convinced me to just roll with it now. If anything, I should be grateful, that he is willing to make some time for me, when in fact he could have been doing something else and maybe more important, than sitting in the same room with me and answering my curious questions. One of these questions could be ticked though, because I unintentionally got it answered, when I read the diary pages. He took a seat on the chair by the table and placing one leg over the other he gestured me to start asking. Licking my lips I adjusted myself on the bed to be as comfy as possible before taking a deep breath and giving him the first question from the list.
"I've been wondering... h-how old are you? I-In vampire terms, I mean, because I remember you saying, that you are very long-living vampire, so.." I tried to somehow form the question, so it wouldn't sound too blunt or as if I am interrogating him. Just now I realised, that I could simply calculate it, but it was much easier and more polite to hear it from him directly."I'm 107 years old," the vampire replied calmly, probably not having any real problem with answering this question. Good. Seems, like I am on a good way to get to know him better and hopefully understand him on deeper level.
"Wow, that's... a lot, hehe," I nervously chuckled, earning a shoulder shrug from him, as he folded his arms across his chest.
"You are surely an immortal being yourself, if I am not mistaken. How long are you living in this world?" he stated and asked me practically the same question in return, which I could have counted with, yet it still slightly surprised me.
"Definitely not as long as you, your majesty. I would say around 50 years maybe? I did not really count the years at all," I rubbed the top of my head thoughtfully, now trying to figure out, how old I myself actually am. Heck, I do not even remember, when exactly I was born!
"You mean to tell me," Terios slightly tilted his head and looked at me from head to toe and back in judgemental manner, before he continued, "that you are unaware of your own age?"I shrugged in response while slowly shaking my head.
"I just know, that I have been living for some time and have been through a lot," I somehow justified my nescience of the matter and saw him slowly shake his head in disbelief.
"Alright, I just take it, that you are younger than me. Although, by appearance we are both youthful, so the chronological age does not matter at all, does it?" he remarked and I just nodded in agreement.
"You.. really don't mind me being so nosy?" I asked an unexpected question, which made him frown a little and avert his gaze.
"You're curious, because you met a royal vampire, I assume, for the first time in your life and I haven't had such.. rather interesting company for a long time. So, I do not really mind you having questions about me. Besides, if they get too personal, I'll just pass and move on to the next one," he replied nonchalantly, almost as if it does not bother him at all. This is so wrong. I am practically a stranger intruding his privacy and heck, a little sting in my chest again reminded me of the 'crime' I have done by reading the first two pages of Sh-TERIOS' diary. Man, the nickname sounds so good, I still keep thinking about it and feel the urge to use it instead of the vampire's real name."O-Okay, but... aren't you really bothered by the fact, that I am basicaly a stranger and-"
"Stop blabbering and give me the next question, will you?" he cut me off with a hiss this time, which made me go silent for a moment, as I closed my mouth and quietly sighed. I felt guilty for what I have done and what all I am now dragging the vampire through. He had to leave the mansion earlier, also because of me, when I just wanted to make sure, that Tails is safe. It doesn't make me selfish, does it? Shaking the thought off I read the next question from the list in my mind and then glanced at the vampire king while nervously gulping, feeling intimidated by him.
"W-When you went out there earlier.. I kinda wondered, i-if the sun hurts you in any way," I put it more as a statement than a question, sounding genuinely concerned as I looked at him from head to toe and didn't see any burn marks on him or any other signs of harm caused to his body by the sun rays. Terios quietly snickered in response, but it sounded humorless.
"I am not like the rogue vampires, so I assure you, the sunlight does not hurt me in any way. I can just get exhausted, if I spend too much time outside during the daytime," he gave me a valid answer and I just nodded in response, restraining from questioning this matter any further despite how curious I actually was.
"Do you get tired during the daytime?" the next question from the list escaped my lips faster than I could think about it properly.
"Yes, I have a sleeping routine in the afternoon hours and usually wake up around midnight," he nodded in response, his voice sounding calm and collected so far. I started feeling a little less nervous now and sensed my confidence boosting up in me.
"That's.. interesting. What do you do during the night then?" I asked him a question, which wasn't in the list, but it was related to the current topic.
"I take care of the mansion of course and also make sure, that Rouge is in a safe spot. She becomes a gargoyle statue during the night time and can't move on her own," he replied and I nodded rather knowingly, because I heard that from Rouge herself, when she introduced herself to me earlier.
"Another thing haunting me a little is your incredibly cold skin," I stated, indirectly hinting, what my next question is.
