Lien-Da brought a map to the table and spread it wide across its entire width and length.
"We are right here," she put her finger to a certain little spot on the map. We both nodded and watched her further.
"The hunters were mostly seen around here and here," she pointed out two spots, one was nearby the Dark Forest, which made me feel a bit nervous now, for it wasn't really that far from the mansion. The other spot was very far from the Dark Forest and even the Vermillion Village, so that was actually a good news at least.
"However, to me it looks like a tactics," the queen continued, as she scrolled the map and sealed it, so it wouldn't spread out on its own.
"I can see your point, your highness. They spread the groups to various locations, because that might be a faster way for them to find us and hunt us down," Shadow replied rather calmly, despite this situation being very serious.
"Precisely. I am glad, that you see it the same way, your majesty," Lien-Da briefly smiled at the vampire and I abruptly rose from my seat.
"Then we need to do something about it! We can't let my king die by their hands!" I exclaimed firmly while frowning at the queen.
"Quiet it down, Sonic! Else I might be forced to punish you for rudeness towards a royalty member!" the queen hissed at me and I reluctantly descended back on my seat while crossing my arms. Shadow's hand found its home on my shoulder and when I looked at him, he gave me a little warning head shake. I sighed and looked down, ashamed of letting my emotions get the better of me like this. On the other hand, who wouldn't be tense, when their partner's life is at stake?"My guards and warriors are doing their best to keep the hunters at bay and sidetrack them. Until the situation calms down, you two are highly recommended to stay here with us," Lien-Da spoke calmer this time and released an exasperated sigh afterwards while rubbing the bridge of her snout.
"Your highness, i-if I may say something," I objected a bit nervously now. I promised Rouge and Tails to return to the mansion soon enough and tell them about the current situation here. The queen nodded, allowing me to continue.
"I promised our friends to ocassionally return and report the situation to them, so... I wonder i-if I am allowed to leave this place anytime I might need it," I formed the confession while now resting my hands in my lap.
"And possibly lead the hunters either to your friends or to us? Out of option, you're either staying here or you leave now, but won't be allowed back in anymore! I am deadly serious, Sonic!" the queen replied in very stern tone, sounding authoritative. She made a good points here, but I refused to simply give up on the chance I might still have.
"Your highness, I am not named Sonic for nothing. I possess an ability to run super fast, I was able to even outrun the fastest vampire, that ever existed," I tried to convince her."He's right," the king confirmed the fact and I was grateful, that he stood up for me.
"Is that so?" Lien-Da raised a brow, surely doubting it.
"I can even show you?" I rose from my seat yet again.
"Not necessary, Sonic. My rule still stands. You either leave with no return or stay here and obey me. The choice is yours," the queen was truly getting on my nerves now, but what else could I do? If I keep opposing her, she might punish me for being rude towards a royalty, as she portrayed it before. Now, I have two choices. Leave or stay. Sounds simple, right? If I leave, I will be able to assure Tails and Rouge, that me and Shadow are safe here, but then I would be no longer allowed to return and thus see my king again. And who knows, how long this 'hunter rampage' situation is going to take, before it gets finally solved...If I stay, I will be able to keep myself by my king's side, but our friends will get no word from us for a long, long time. And it might get them worried sick about us. Both choices have pros and cons and I so much hated this.
"So? What is your decision, Sonic?" the queen's voice snapped me out of it, as I glanced at her with a serious frown on my face.
"And couldn't we compromise?" I still tried to somehow find my way out of it.
"Elaborate," she raised an eyebrow for a brief moment.
"I would leave only this once to inform our friends, that we are safe and using my super speed I would return here, then never leave again," I offered and slightly wagged my tail behind me, as I stood by the table. So did the queen, whilst my king remained sitting, now with his arms folded over his chest.
"There is still a high risk of you getting seen by any of the hunters out there. Here, why don't you write a letter for them instead?" Lien-Da walked off towards the tall shelf located by the door of the guest room and taking a few papers with a feather and a small ink bottle she returned to the table, where she put all the items in front of me.
"Once you're done, bring it to me and I will take care of the rest," she did not let me react, as she turned around and left us alone in the room with many questions flowing through our heavy minds.
