PARINIDHI

The engagement venue was nothing short of grand—an opulent hotel with a lavishly decorated ballroom, where the celebration was in full swing. Only a select few guests had been invited, creating an intimate yet intense atmosphere that buzzed with underlying tension.

As soon as I stepped inside, my gaze immediately landed on Mukul and Kusum, who stood near the entrance. Their expressions were unmistakably awkward, a stark contrast to the extravagance surrounding them.

Mukul noticed me first. He offered a tentative smile, one that didn't quite reach his eyes. I returned the gesture, though my mind was racing, each step toward them heavy with unspoken concerns.

"Where's Ansh?" Mukul asked the moment I reached him, his voice tinged with worry.

"Anshika didn't want to come," I began, but Mukul quickly interrupted, his brow furrowed with anxiety. "But it's not safe for her to stay at the mansion alone."

His concern caught me off guard. The only real threat to Anshika had been Narendra Thapar, and he was no longer in the picture.

"I've asked Rahul to keep an eye on her, and there are guards posted outside her room. She'll be fine," I reassured him.

Michael had taken extra precautions after Devansh was taken to jail, stationing guards around the mansion to ensure our safety.

Mukul's shoulders relaxed slightly, and he nodded, a hint of relief softening his features. "Thank you for being here, Bhabhi. I know the situation is complicated, but don't worry—things will get better soon."

I forced a smile, but the weight of what I needed to tell Mukul pressed heavily on my chest. I was painfully aware of how he might react. Just as I gathered the courage to speak, a hand suddenly snaked around my waist.

A wave of revulsion swept over me, and I quickly turned to find Sahil standing far too close, his hand gripping my waist possessively. I instinctively tried to pull away, but his hold tightened, trapping me in place.

My eyes burned with disgust as I glared at him, but before I could say a word, Mukul was already moving. With a swift punch, he struck Sahil hard in the face, sending him stumbling backward.

"How dare you touch my sister!" Mukul shouted, his voice ringing out in anger, drawing the attention of every guest in the ballroom.

Though Mukul was my cousin, our relationship was still new and somewhat awkward. I had only recently learned that he was my cousin, so hearing him call me sister was something unfamiliar yet strangely comforting.

Mukul's furious gaze remained fixed on Sahil, and I turned to see Sahil clutching his bleeding nose, yet his eyes remained locked on me, a twisted smirk playing on his lips.

Realization dawned on me—I had to keep up this act until Devansh arrived safely.

Mukul, still seething with anger, raised his fist to strike Sahil again. But before he could, I instinctively stepped between them, shielding Sahil with my body. I closed my eyes, bracing myself for the impact of Mukul's punch.

But it never came.

When I opened my eyes, Mukul's fist was inches from my face, frozen in mid-air. He stared at me, his face a mix of confusion and fury, his eyes searching mine for an explanation that I couldn't give.

The weight of the situation settled heavily on me—I was walking a fine line, and one wrong move could destroy everything.

I knew I couldn't speak freely with Mukul because of Sahil's presence, so I locked eyes with Mukul, hoping the desperation in my gaze would convey what words couldn't.
