PARINIDHI
"I'm full, Dev," I said, turning my face slightly as he brought yet another spoonful of rice to my lips.
He gave me that mischievous smile, the one I could never say no to, and insistently held the spoon near my mouth, waiting for me to give in. I sighed, shaking my head in playful surrender, and finally opened my mouth, letting him feed me one last bite.
"Okay, that's it. I'm seriously done now," I said, scooting a little away from him for emphasis. He nodded, setting the plate aside on the nearby table, and then handed me a glass of water. After taking a few sips, I passed it back, teasing him, "When are you going to eat?"
"I'll eat later," he said with a shrug, but his attention wasn't on the food anymore. He leaned in, placing a soft kiss on my forehead, before gently guiding me to lie down. He tucked the duvet around me with care, like I was the most precious thing in the world, and sat beside me, his fingers naturally intertwining with mine.
I shifted closer to him, placing my head on his lap, and immediately his hand began stroking through my hair, the soothing motion lulling my worries. But then, I heard it in his voice, a hesitation. "Pari..." he said softly, almost cautiously.
I looked up at him, catching the change in his tone, sensing the weight behind it. "What is it?" I asked gently, urging him to go on. His face turned more serious, and recognizing the shift, I quickly sat up, ready for whatever he was about to tell me.
He pulled me closer, his arm wrapping around my waist as he guided me to sit on his lap. His touch was soft, but I could feel the tension beneath it. "Tell me what's bothering you," I said, my voice barely above a whisper as I searched his face.
He took a deep breath before speaking, "Love, tomorrow is Mukul and Renya's wedding day... but Mukul doesn't want to go through with it. And you know why. I have only about 12 or 13 hours to find Mukul's mother. If I can do that, I can stop this wedding. So... I need to leave tonight."
His words hung in the air for a moment before I fully processed them. "You're leaving now?" I asked, my heart sinking a little. "At this time of night? And you won't be back until tomorrow?"
He nodded, his eyes full of understanding, knowing how much it pained me to hear it. I glanced over at the clock—it was already 8:30 PM. We'd spent most of the evening resting, and now, out of nowhere, he was about to leave, and not just for a few hours, but the entire night and following day.
I knew this situation with Mukul's mother was important, and I understood the urgency behind it. Still, the thought of him leaving me here alone, especially now, left a heavy feeling in my chest. But I also knew this wasn't the time for selfishness.
I nodded slowly, taking a deep breath to steady my thoughts. I had noticed Devansh's cold demeanor toward Renya earlier, and it was clear that he wasn't going to let this wedding happen.
But now, hearing that Mukul himself didn't want to go through with it made everything more complicated.
I couldn't wrap my head around what I was supposed to feel about it all—frustration, sadness, maybe relief?
I knew one thing for certain, though, I needed to talk to Renya before making any judgments or decisions.
Lost in thought, I barely noticed that Devansh had been watching me, his eyes filled with concern. "What are you thinking about?" he asked softly, his hand still running through my hair, gently pulling me back to the present.
I gave him a small, reassuring smile and leaned into him, resting my head against his chest, wrapping my arms around his waist. His presence calmed me, but the worry still lingered beneath the surface.
