The Yule Ball had ended in a whirlwind of music, laughter, and twinkling lights. As the students slowly dispersed, returning to their common rooms or finding secluded corners for quieter moments, Aurora Black and Theo Nott slipped away from the crowd. The night was far from over for them.
"Let's go to the Astronomy Tower," Theo suggested as they walked through the dimly lit corridors of Hogwarts. The castle was eerily quiet, the only sounds being the soft echoes of their footsteps and the occasional whisper of the wind against the stone walls.
Aurora glanced at him, a mischievous smile playing on her lips. "Lead the way," she said.
They ascended the spiral staircase that led to the tower, the cool night air growing stronger with each step. When they finally reached the top, they found themselves alone, the vast expanse of the night sky stretching out above them. The stars twinkled like diamonds, and the moon cast a soft, silvery glow over everything.
Theo leaned against the stone railing, pulling a cigarette from his pocket. "Fancy a smoke?" he asked, holding it out to Aurora.
She hesitated for a moment before taking it from him. Theo lit his own first, then leaned in to light hers, the flame of his lighter flickering in the wind. Aurora inhaled deeply, the smoke filling her lungs before she exhaled slowly, watching the smoke curl up into the night.
For a while, they stood in silence, simply enjoying the quiet and each other's company. The distant sounds of laughter and music from the Great Hall had long since faded, leaving only the sound of the wind and the occasional crackle of their cigarettes.
After a few moments, Aurora broke the silence. "Theo," she said softly, turning to face him. "Do you want to see a secret?"
He raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "A secret? Sure, show me."
Aurora took a step closer to him, holding out her hand. In her other hand, she held the lighter. With a small flick, she ignited the flame and then, without hesitation, placed it directly onto her palm.
Theo's eyes widened in alarm. "Aurora, what the hell are you doing?" he exclaimed, reaching out to grab the lighter and throw it from her hand. "Are you crazy? You're going to burn yourself!"
But when he looked at her palm, expecting to see a burn or at least some redness, he saw nothing. Her skin was completely unharmed, as if the flame had never touched it. He stared at her in shock, his mouth slightly agape.
Aurora shrugged, her expression unreadable. "I don't know how it happens," she admitted, her voice soft and almost vulnerable. "It's like the fire can't hurt me."
Theo shook his head in disbelief. "You're full of surprises, Aurora Black."
She smirked at that, a glint of challenge in her eyes. "Oh yeah?" she teased, stepping closer until she was right in front of him. Without warning, she straddled his lap, her hands resting on his shoulders as she leaned in to kiss him.
