The night was oppressive, heavy with the anticipation of violence as Aurora led a group of Death Eaters through the shadowy corridors of the Ministry of Magic. The normally bustling building was eerily silent, its inhabitants blissfully unaware of the storm about to descend upon them. The plan was simple, ruthless: eliminate Rufus Scrimgeour, the current Minister of Magic, and seize control of the Ministry.
Aurora moved with purpose, her footsteps echoing ominously against the polished marble floors. She was flanked by Theo, Bellatrix, and several other Death Eaters, their faces hidden behind dark masks. Each of them was prepared for what was to come, but Aurora felt a knot of anxiety tightening in her chest.
As they approached the Minister's office, the guards stationed outside barely had time to react before they were struck down by a flurry of lethal curses. The door to Scrimgeour's office was blasted off its hinges, sending shards of wood flying into the room. Aurora stepped through the threshold, her wand raised, her eyes cold and unyielding.
Rufus Scrimgeour stood behind his desk, his wand drawn, but the look in his eyes betrayed the realization that he was outnumbered. "You'll never win," he spat, defiance etched in every line of his face. "The Ministry will stand—"
His words were cut off by the green flash of a Killing Curse, cast by Bellatrix with a wild, gleeful laugh. The curse hit Scrimgeour squarely in the chest, and the Minister crumpled to the ground, lifeless.
Aurora turned away, her expression unreadable. The victory felt hollow, overshadowed by the knowledge that their task was far from over. The Ministry would fall, but Harry Potter was still out there a thorn in the Dark Lord's side that refused to be removed.
The next phase of the plan was set in motion with brutal efficiency. The Death Eaters regrouped, Apparating to the Burrow, where they knew a wedding was taking place. It was the perfect opportunity to strike at Harry Potter, to catch him off guard while he was surrounded by friends and allies.
The scene at the Burrow was one of chaos as the Death Eaters descended upon the wedding. Spells flashed through the night, screams filled the air, and the once festive atmosphere was replaced by one of terror and confusion. Aurora moved through the melee, her wand a blur as she deflected curses and fired off her own.
But despite their efforts, Harry Potter slipped through their grasp yet again. The boy was a ghost, evading capture at every turn. The Order of the Phoenix had anticipated the attack and responded with a ferocity that took the Death Eaters by surprise. As the battle raged on, it became clear that they were losing the element of surprise and with it, the battle.
Aurora watched in frustration as Harry, Hermione, and Ron managed to escape, Disapparating away just as she was closing in on them. Her fury was immediate, visceral. The failure stung deeply, and she knew there would be a price to pay when they returned to the Dark Lord.
Back at Malfoy Manor, the tension was palpable as the Death Eaters gathered in the drawing room. Voldemort's fury was legendary, and there was no doubt that he would be enraged by their failure. Aurora stood at the head of the room, her hands clenched into fists as she fought to keep her emotions in check.
"Tell him," she hissed at the assembled Death Eaters, her voice low and dangerous. "Tell the Dark Lord how we failed. Tell him how we let Potter escape, how we couldn't even manage to bring down a handful of wizards at a wedding."
The other Death Eaters shifted uneasily, avoiding her gaze. Bellatrix, usually so brash and confident, was uncharacteristically silent, her eyes downcast.
Aurora didn't wait for a response. With a sharp turn, she stormed out of the room, her anger and frustration boiling over. Theo hesitated for only a moment before following her, leaving the others to face Voldemort's wrath alone.
As they ascended the stairs, they could already hear the faint sounds of screaming coming from downstairs. Voldemort's punishment had begun. Aurora's steps faltered, her emotions threatening to overwhelm her.
When they reached her room, she slammed the door behind them, leaning against it as if trying to keep the weight of the world from crushing her. Theo stood by, watching her with concern. She had always been strong, always so sure of herself. But now, she seemed on the verge of breaking.
"What should I do, Theo?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. "No matter what I do, it ends in failure. I can't keep doing this... I can't..."
Theo moved closer, his expression softening. He had never seen Aurora like this so vulnerable, so human. "You can't blame yourself for everything," he said gently. "You've done more for the Dark Lord than any of us. You're not alone in this."
"But what if he kills me?" Aurora's voice cracked, her fear finally breaking through the surface. "What if he decides I'm not useful anymore? I've seen what he does to those who disappoint him..."
Theo reached out, placing a hand on her shoulder. "You won't fail," he said firmly. "You're too strong for that. And I'll be with you, no matter what happens."
Aurora looked up at him, her eyes filled with uncertainty. For a moment, she didn't respond, simply searching his face for any sign of doubt. When she found none, she allowed herself to take comfort in his words, nodding slowly. Theo pulled her into an embrace, holding her tightly as the sounds of punishment continued to echo through the manor.
The next morning, Aurora was alone in her room, the events of the previous night still weighing heavily on her mind. The sun had barely risen, casting a pale light through the curtains. The manor was quiet now, but the memories of the screams still lingered in the air.
Aurora made her way to the bathroom, seeking solace in the warm water of the bath. She needed to clear her mind, to wash away the lingering doubts and fears that clung to her like a second skin. The water was hot, almost scalding, but she welcomed the sensation, letting it seep into her muscles and ease the tension that had taken root there.
As she lay back in the tub, Aurora stared up at the ceiling, her thoughts a swirling mess. The burden of her failures pressed down on her, suffocating her beneath its weight. She felt lost, trapped in a cycle of violence and fear that she could no longer escape.
Without thinking, she let her head slip beneath the surface of the water. The world became muted, the sounds and sensations dulling to a distant hum. For a brief moment, there was peace no pain, no fear, just silence.
But then, strong hands were pulling her back, lifting her out of the water. Gasping for air, Aurora found herself in Theo's arms, his expression a mixture of panic and relief.
"Are you crazy?" he demanded, his voice shaking with emotion. He held her close, the water from the bath soaking into his clothes, but he didn't seem to care.
Aurora didn't answer, her body trembling as she clung to him. All the pain and fear she had been holding back came flooding out, and for the first time in a long while, she allowed herself to break. "Take it away," she whispered, her voice raw with desperation. "Theo, please... take all the pain away..."
Theo's heart ached at the sight of her like this. He had always thought Aurora thrived in the darkness, that she enjoyed the power and the destruction they wielded. But seeing her now, so vulnerable and broken, he realized how wrong he had been. The weight of their actions, of the lives they had taken, had finally caught up to her.
He held her tighter, running his hand through her wet hair as she sobbed into his shoulder. "I'm here," he murmured, his voice gentle. "I'm here, Aurora. We'll get through this. Together."
They stayed like that for what felt like an eternity, the outside world forgotten as they clung to each other in the quiet of the bathroom. Theo knew that there were no easy answers, no simple solutions to the darkness that surrounded them. But for now, all that mattered was that Aurora wasn't alone.
And he would do whatever it took to make sure she never felt that way again.
