Jisung’s breath caught in his throat. “I-I’ve seen this before... in my dad’s drawer.” His voice wavered, the weight of the realization settling in.
Hyunjin’s eyes lit up with excitement. “Amazing! We have to collect it then!”
Jisung’s heart raced, his voice barely a whisper. “S-so... my dad’s doing something illegal?” Tears welled up in his eyes, threatening to spill over.
Minho quickly moved closer, placing a comforting hand on Jisung’s head. “Don’t jump to conclusions, Jisung. We need to investigate first. Don’t worry, nothing bad will happen. I promise.”
Hyunjin, growing impatient, rolled his eyes. “Can we go now? Enough with the lovey-dovey stuff.”
Minho sighed, glancing at Hyunjin. “I don’t think it’s a good idea for me to go with you. Jisung’s father doesn’t know we’re mates, and with our families being rivals, seeing us together could cause more trouble than it’s worth.”
“Fine, then Jisung and I will go alone. We’ll stay connected via Bluetooth,” Hyunjin replied, handing Minho one of his earbuds and placing the other in his own ear.
Before they left, Hyunjin turned to Jisung. “By the way, do you want me to call you hyung? You’re older than me, after all.”
Jisung shook his head, forcing a small smile despite the tension. “No, just call me Jisung. I couldn’t care less about that stuff.”
Hyunjin pointed to his car. “Alright, then. Shall we go?”
Minho’s eyes narrowed slightly as he looked at Hyunjin. “You better not hurt him, Hyunjin.”
Hyunjin scoffed, clearly annoyed. “Can you trust me for once, Min-fucking-ho? I’m not going to hurt your mate, for God’s sake.” He guided Jisung to the car, helping him into the back seat.
Minho wasn’t done. “I’ll follow you in my car. Be careful, Jisung. Even though he’s my brother’s mate, I don’t have much faith in this idiot,” he whispered to Jisung, giving his hand a reassuring squeeze.
As they reached Jisung’s house, Hyunjin glanced around. “Nice place,” he commented, receiving a nod from Jisung.
“Where’s your dad’s room?” Hyunjin asked, his tone more serious now.
“Relax. I’ll show you,” Jisung replied, putting in his Bluetooth earpiece, which connected him to both Minho and Hyunjin.
“This feels like I’m some kind of spy on a mission,” Hyunjin remarked, a grin spreading across his face.
Minho’s voice came through with a sharp edge. “You’re just here to retrieve that 2ml drug, Hyunjin. It’s not exactly something to be proud of.”
Hyunjin scoffed in response. “This guy can’t stand the fact that I’m better at this than him.”
Jisung couldn’t help but giggle at the alphas’ bickering as he entered the code to unlock his father’s door. He knew it well—he had used it plenty of times before when his dad had hidden his lyrics or notes.
“Can we go in, tomato head?” Jisung teased as he glanced at Hyunjin.
“How dare you!” Hyunjin barked, though the omega had already slipped into the room.
“Don’t you dare shout at him, Hyunjin,” Minho growled over the earpiece.
“Damn it,” Hyunjin muttered, joining Jisung in the search.
After fifteen minutes of rummaging through the room, both boys met back at the door, empty-handed.
“Nothing? Did he move it somewhere else?” Jisung huffed in frustration.
The sound of the door knob turning sent a jolt of panic through the room. Someone was about to enter.
Without thinking, Hyunjin shoved Jisung against the wall, pressing close to him as he leaned in, lips dangerously close.
“What the—” Jisung’s words were cut off as Hyunjin placed a finger on his lips.
“Shhh.”
Minho’s voice came urgently through the Bluetooth. “What the hell is going on in there, Hyunjin? Answer me!”
